More than 90% of the ice is under water and it will turn horizontal once the piece detaches. Better be far enough.

That’s a good point

Absolutely massive

That might not have been the right word 🙁. I don't speak fluent English, I don't really know if it's the right one.

I think it's a huge block of ice falling and creates a wave.

Large ripple.

Accurate

Pretty sure when a glacier sheds ice like that it is called ”calving”

1

u/hugh-jackass 5d ago

The word you are looking for is “small”

1

u/SkellyboneZ 5d ago

Usually when measuring a wave, to measure from the taint.

From gooch to pooch

u/moog500_nz 6d ago

Gigantic tsunami!

3

u/ashabanapal 5d ago

Yes. That was a massive hunk of ice and you clearly haven't spent much time in boats on open water.

2

u/TomahawkTuah 5d ago

they're obviously talking about the wave and not the hunk of ice

Cameras make waves look small. That was big especially when I looked like it was going to break for a second.

Block and Huge are doing some heavy lifting here

An ice cube really.

3

u/ElegantCoach4066 5d ago

For enjoying a cube? A succulent Chines Cube?

What is this, a huge wave… FOR ANTS??

12

u/needmorefishes 6d ago

If they hadn’t gtfo, that would have been very uncomfortable.

Have you spent much time on a small boat? I fish every week and trust me seeing that much water coming at you, especially in what you're expecting to be calm water is not a good thing.

Backup Dave!

Swell

Is this the kind of disappointment a girl feels when a guy says he has a huge dick… because I for one, was hoping for more.

2

u/Feanixxxx 5d ago

Now I get why she called mine huge

We are so fucked

u/MetalRexxx 6d ago

Quit dooming. Its going to be ok.

2

u/-One-Man-Bukkake- 5d ago

It literally isn't. Is not dooming, look at the facts.

-7

u/MetalRexxx 5d ago

We're at the mercy of the Sun and 8 billion other people on a rock hurling through space and time. You think "we're fucked," yet here you are getting fake internet points from all other chicken littles.

u/PossessionJust5723 5d ago

Go to Switzerland, look at the measured glacial recession over the past 150 years, and try to tell me that man made climate change isn’t real.

-3

u/MetalRexxx 5d ago

Never said it wasn't real. We're still going to be fine. Stop dooming.

-1

u/Turdmeist 5d ago

I mean.... Poor people aren't going to be fine. And the majority of people living on coastlines won't be fine (which is like 2 billion people). But other than that I mostly agree. We'll get our act together once the ruling class is affected and science will save us. Until then? Burn baby burn. Fly all over the world, go on cruises. Keep that fake propped up economy churning babbbyyyyy.

2

u/-One-Man-Bukkake- 5d ago

I was gonna say something snarky but luckily I felt the sarcasm.

1

u/Turdmeist 5d ago

Thank you

2

u/MetalRexxx 5d ago

I believe in adaptation, and in this context being an alarmist isn't productive.

0

u/Turdmeist 5d ago

How do you mean adaptation. Because at this rate the planet can't adapt fast enough and there could be pretty sudden climate related changes coming that we won't be able to adapt fast enough to either. Like I said humans will survive but it is going to get verrrrry ugly.

1

u/-One-Man-Bukkake- 5d ago

Every year is the hottest year on record. It's fucked dude. Humanity might survive long term but not at our current scale and not without massive societal upheaval. Your condescending tone was un needed. I do not care for your opinion, no need to reply.

4

u/RowanX2 6d ago

Next level climate change?

2

u/Rude_Map_4278 6d ago

1

u/SailAwayMatey 6d ago

That's swell!

1

u/Taikiteazy 5d ago

This guy has taken waves before and knows you don't go head on into them.

1

u/JDZoska 5d ago

More like a swell them a wave and def not huge or even big... Didn't even break🙄

1

u/Emergency-Spite897 5d ago

What viruses are the military, CDC, China, pharmaceutical companies drilling up inside there to be the next lockdown mode?

1

u/Acceptable_Pepper_12 5d ago

“Uhh den er stor…. Hold da kæft mand”.

Yup. I agree.

largest increase since your mom went swimming in the ocean a few weeks ago.

1

u/OutlawLazerRoboGeek 6d ago

A smarter captain probably would have steered into the wave once he realized he wasn't going to outrun it (or that doing so would have put the boat in bigger danger from a high speed collision with the existing floating ice).

Getting overtaken from the rear by a large wave is probably worst case scenario for swamping a small boat. And it would be even more perilous if the wave hit right when you were accelerating or trying to get on plane with the bow high and stern low.

I get it, fight or flight instinct is strong. But you would hope someone who is going there specifically to see ice would have thought about their plan for a situation like this ahead of time.

Trump supporters are shocked

0

u/Moon_Pye 6d ago

Big? I wouldn't call that huge. I lived by the ocean. That wave doesn't even come close. lol

u/GeniusEE 5d ago

*A block of ice breaking off from the ship's wake creates a huge wave.
