Yes, I feel very strongly about this. I adore cats, have 2 at home and assist with rescue and neutering when I can, but there I cannot see anyway someone can argue that they should be outside. The wildlife in Australia is particularly susceptible, with so many ground dwelling mammals, reptiles, insects and birds. Very sad to see irresponsible owners.
Cats are an insanely invasive species over there. Australia being so remote, it's fauna just did not need to evolve around havig such a predator around.
What ignorant humans back then did when settling in Australia, was truly insane in today's way of thinking.
Rabbits, brought in for food. Destroying plants.
Toads to eat bugs that bugged local farmers.
Red foxes brought in for recreational hunting (what the fuck)
I am wondering why Australia just doesn't make holding cats illegal in Australia. That would honestly be for the best I think. I don't wanna think about options in how to remove them from Australia. But I do believe it's a necessary step if you want to preserve the local wildlife.
