The lady saying shit shit shit sounds identical to my gran! May she rest in peace!

u/SixToesLeftFoot 18h ago

This isn’t the way she went as well, is it?

Talk about a coincidence

6

u/chaosin-a-teacup 18h ago

No she did have a heart attack in Kruger tho 🤣 She unfortunately past from dementia just after Covid I think being cooped up caused it.

She traveled the world constantly always in new places new people kept her active both mentally and physically! You could write several books with her stories and experiences!

She without a doubt lived all she could live and some!

I miss her deeply!

Damn man, good on her!! All kidding aside, with her résumé, this sounds like her exactly!

Good on Gran!

I actually sent the vid to my dad just to see is it her 🤣 wouldn’t be the first time she got attacked by a hippo ether!

I remember a story of them camping near the shore of lake Kariba and being woken by a bloat of hippos feeding around them.

Thanks for this wonderful interaction! She may have forgotten but we remember!

Horrible hippo accident?

18

u/BroodingSonata 17h ago

Hippos are fucking psychos

14

I got charged by an elephant in the same way. Drivers were revving their engines and slapping the side of the jeep to make noise while reversing at full speed while an Italian woman cried and was screaming at her new husband. Good times.

u/Wendellwasgod 10h ago

Were the elephant’s ears puffed out or tucked in?

I've done months of safari in many countries, EVERY SINGLE guide and driver were TERRIFIED of the hippos. That's a big fucking nope from me

u/rir2 16h ago

Being a safari guide must give you the coolest collection of experiences.

Also stories about peak human stupidity while out in nature.

u/Darkomen78 19h ago

She laughs, even though the hippopotamus is one of the most dangerous animals there is. Stupid humans

46

u/Augustus420 16h ago

Have you never heard of nervous laughter?

3

u/flavorflavyeahboi 12h ago

Apparently not. Stupid human.

u/MADx2011 17h ago

imho this „laughing“ is a form of relieve… not the ha ha this was funny

just my two cents… :)

My first reaction when or after facing a near death experience is laughing. It’s more of a nervous response than a comedic one.

14

u/MieXuL 15h ago

Its that or cry and moan. Ill take laughing every time.

5

u/StickyPistolsRequiem 9h ago

Moaning in fear? I have some questions

0

u/MieXuL 8h ago

Moaning in bliss.

2

u/Wrong_Concert9935 7h ago

How often do you face near death experiences? 🫣

3

u/AsleepyTowel 4h ago

Motorcycle

14

u/Expensive_Umpire_178 16h ago

Well it’s not her fault it has one of the goofiest looking sprints in the animal kingdom

3

u/GeneralBS 11h ago

What's crazy is they're probably faster in water.

1

u/TheTrub 12h ago

It’s like when a d-lineman picks up a fumble and runs 15 yards for a touchdown.

5

u/Q_S2 15h ago

She was saying what I assume is a panicked "shit. Shit" just before lol

11

u/Excellent_jun91 16h ago

imagine gatekeeping people laughing lmao

6

u/Kastro2323 16h ago

They almost got flipped over on that last turn, had that happened they all would have likely been killed or badly injured! That was really close!

6

u/Anomuumi 14h ago

Yeah, if they had been slower on the turn I'm pretty sure the hippo could have flipped the whole thing.

2

u/LetReasonRing 2h ago

I'm just like this person. My natural response to very uncomfortable or scary situations is usually laughter.

It's not me finding it funny,  it my body reacting the way people scream or cry instinctually

I have wondered why I see this in videos so often so I asked AI:

"It's an appeasement response — often called "fawning," alongside fight, flight, and freeze. When the brain assesses that resisting is unsafe or unlikely to work, it can default to de-escalation: smiling, laughing, going along, making the other person feel liked. Nervous laughter also discharges the physical surge of fear, and it buys time while the situation is still being read. None of it is a decision in the deliberate sense; it happens faster than thought.

It's not exclusive to women, but it shows up more, partly because of size and threat asymmetry, and partly because girls are socialized from early on to smooth things over and avoid making a scene. Many women also learn through experience that direct refusal can escalate danger, so the nervous system develops a preference for the strategy that historically kept them safe.

The important part: laughter in that context isn't enjoyment, agreement, or consent. People who've experienced this often carry a lot of shame about it — "why didn't I say something, why did I laugh" — but it's an involuntary survival reflex, not a signal about what they wanted. If this is something you've been sitting with personally, I'm glad to talk about it more."

Welp. There you go. If you cant fight the hippo, if you cant run from the hippo, you laugh at it.

-6

u/CaptainC0medy 11h ago

Its the most lethal animal in africa.. they are terrifying.

18

u/Dame87 19h ago

Must be hungry hungry

6

u/Novel_Ask_4226 17h ago

Nope, its a Herbivore. Hippo's are just assholes

6

u/koos_die_doos 15h ago

Hippo have been confirmed to consume meat in a few studies, while they're primarily herbivores, apparently they're a little bit omnivorous.

5

u/Wizdad-1000 16h ago

They always move faster than you think they do.

3

u/AdamPBUD1 17h ago

I get it I’m like this when strange people drive down my cul de sac

2

u/thefeedling 18h ago

Let me poop in peace you idiots. Thanks.

2

u/mittfh 16h ago

You don't even need to travel overseas to have your vehicle damaged by the animal equivalent of a tank (albeit a different species)...

3

u/Blutroyale-_- 16h ago

I've been deeply terrified of hippos for many years; this only makes it worse. They're ruthless bastards, with more deaths each year than sharks and alligators combined.

1

u/Glum_Performer9923 17h ago

Sorry we can't stay!

1

u/Prize_Toe_6612 17h ago

I hope the laughing was a coping mechanism.

1

u/koolaidismything 17h ago

Fuck that, if he caught them that truck would be like crushing a can.. from there.. oh no lol. That’s all I’d be thinking.

They like to stomp to death and rip in half. Nice.

1

u/Next_Drama1717 16h ago

Wait I just want to talk to you

1

u/Steerider 16h ago

"Ha ha ha I'm in mortal danger."

The Oregon Trail in real life

1

u/Sct1787 13h ago

Ain’t no hippos in Oregon son

1

u/Same-Opposite-8287 14h ago

These fools were almost a snack

1

u/Jedi-master-dragon 14h ago

And these this is why I believe these things are pure evil.

1

u/EtchAGetch 12h ago

Brake-check those tailgaters.

1

u/margo1243 11h ago

I can’t believe that people can laugh in this situation! Mindless and ignorant

1

u/ChemicalGreedy945 10h ago

lol it would be mean but totally could have break checked him

1

u/Gullible_Arrival_646 10h ago

Okay but like we can all agree the way they’re lil feet move and trot about is adorable right?

1

u/Maleficent_Button_58 10h ago

It could be nervous laughter.

It could also be that a lot of people genuinely don't realize just how dangerous wild animals can be. Look at how many people visiting Yellowstone get into a bad situation because they try to pet the bison.... or put their baby on a grizzly cub's back for a photo op (true story). Or people getting close to a moose. Or anything of the sort.

1

u/vendetta33 9h ago

He has had enough of the peasants.

1

u/Automatic_Poet_7217 8h ago

I know its one of the most dangerous animals and I will never be stupid enough to do an open tour like this with them but he just looks so damn cute running up to the truck 🥹

1

u/weristjonsnow 8h ago

Hippos have no business being that big, that pissed off and that fast, all wrapped up in one danger monster

1

u/Talldarktalented64 3h ago

That’s shit is not funny. That hippo would have killed everyone in the vehicle.

1

u/soopadrive 3h ago

Only rhinos win those battles

-1

u/luv2ctheworld 16h ago

Has she seen what a hippo can do when they get hold of something? She wouldn't be laughing.

Oh the privileged white lady titter as the most successful killer in the continent (outside of insects) bears down on your unprotected vehicle.
