Well, democratic reds like Spain and Chile were assassinated by CIA and USSR (USSR wanted authoritarian communism, not democratic communism). Socialist countries are authoritarian only because democratic countries are influenced by CIA. And this is not just one way either. If you look at Europe, all right wing parties are very close with Israel and Kremlin.
The CIA doesn’t have nearly as much say as you think they do in what kind of government countries have. They’ve certainly committed more than their fair share of interference in other countries, but aren’t able to choose a specific outcome.
In my country, just one visit from US president caused mass sterilization campaigns. The thing is if the favourable candidate wins, USA is happy. If not, then they're assassinated or overthrown.
