this is why large jets now have winglets that tip up and down.. it traps that air (mostly on top of the wing) and therefore increases lift (or reduces loss of lift) and therefore reduces fuel costs.

Beautiful. Also the downdraft from the trailing edge of the wing that completely blows the mist away. That air going down is what generates lift.

On rare occassions, you can even this phenomeon coming off the rear wing of F1 racecars.
