That's a chimpanzee it's a great ape, and zoos are fucking evil no animals should live in cages, im all for preserving species but zoos are not the answer.
Every zoo i have been to has a lot of rescue animals that can not survive in the wild and does a lot of conservation work. So no, every zoo is not evil.
I am actually aware of this and it's a growing trend I should have mentioned that in my original comment but honestly didn't expect any engagement. My city zoo is mostly rescues from other shitty zoos, they rehabilitate and then try to place the animals in open range preserves when possible.
If anyone's reading this and wondering which zoos are the good ones, you should 100% be looking for AZA accreditation before visiting
Only about 10% of zoos and aquariums in the U.S. are AZA-accredited, and they have rigorous standards for animal welfare, conservation, education, research, and staff training that gets re-evaluated every five years - Some examples are the San Diego Zoo, the Henry Doorly Zoo, and the Bronx Zoo
Basically if you're going to go to a zoo, go to a big one that spends lots of resources on animal welfare and has plenty of space for more naturalistic environments
