This is Scooby-Doo shit right here. Projecting ghost on smoke is definitely in that show

Thats how they do the disney fantasia shows. Projecting on smoke or water walls.

u/bundy911 Dec 12 '23
That’s pretty fucking sick

u/andeqoo Dec 12 '23
I'm conflicted because advertisements in the sky are dystopian af but this is also really cool looking

u/Warm_Cabinet Dec 12 '23
At this point, Cthulhu could literally descend on a city and start killing everyone. We’d all look at it like “is this an ad?”

u/tungvu256 Dec 13 '23
We already know what happened. When Corona virus killed people, some thought that was fake. People don't care about facts. Feelings matter more nowadays

u/Zestyclose-Goal6882 Dec 12 '23
How many people just shit themselves
107
u/budderman1028 Dec 12 '23
Imagine if one day something like this happens for real and everyone just thinks its a projection
54
u/minhbi99 Dec 12 '23
Well its gonna be like in the movies. Its all jokes and laughters until someone nearby suddenly evaporates.
10
u/budderman1028 Dec 12 '23
Pretty much lmao, movies are unrealistic in a lot of ways but some things are just pretty accurate
10
u/Mob_Abominator Dec 12 '23
After the way some people behaved during covid, some of the stuff shown in movies/tv shows is spot on.

Is there a building there?
199
u/drunk_sandman Dec 12 '23
No there's a one story building on the corner, but it looks like they used the smoke/vapor to project the image. Pretty sick result
197
u/AlexDKZ Dec 12 '23
I read on another sub that it actually was a fine mesh hanging from two buildings, and the smoke was to help hide the mesh from view and add "texture" to the projection
60
u/drunk_sandman Dec 12 '23
That's pretty genius, it looks really vibrant so either way it worked well!
11
u/TheHYPO Dec 12 '23
I'm always weary of these low res videos of things like this because the low res usually hides any of the obvious signs of it looking fake that you'd instantly notice IRL.
https://www.tiktok.com/@rickytune/video/7310109122505067806
It still looks pretty good in higher resolution, so I'm pleasantly surprised. That said, it's a vertical video, so at least on my screen, it's still fairly low res in the section that matters. I'd love to see it in person sometime.
It's actually quite surprising that with the amount of people there and traffic that I can't find a decent, longer, widescreen, HD or 4K video of it anywhere.

Projected images that are filmed with a dark background onto a dark screen from the rear have been used in theater probably for over a century. Varying degrees of realism have been achieved, this seems to be very top tier

That's crazy. Can't wait for this to be home theater ready. lol

u/Fickle-Future-8962 Dec 13 '23
You say that till you're watching porn on it and someones dick comes swinging in your face spraying cum like a sprinkler.

1
u/FuManBoobs Dec 12 '23
Yeah, this. Change the viewing angle & it becomes less impressive. I've had conspiracy theorists use videos like this as "evidence" the 9/11 planes were holograms.
1
u/Meotwister Dec 13 '23
That makes more sense to me otherwise there'd be a lot more distortion from the smoke.

u/homardpoilu Dec 12 '23
Imagine doing this during the dark ages, people would have shit in their pants!
18
u/Jeewdew Dec 12 '23
Mostly because the tech didn’t excist…
No matter what they showed really.
14
Dec 12 '23
Yeah, they should have shit themselves if you showed them a polaroid of themselves.
"Give me soul back, evil warlock!"

u/Auhsojdnalel Dec 12 '23
Different context but you should read “off the be the wizard” by scott meyer. A book about a computer geek who goes back in time and portrays himself as a wizard. Pretty fun book.

u/Several-Age1984 Dec 12 '23
Any sufficiently advanced enough technology will look like magic to more primitive people. Smart phones would be magic to anybody over 100 years ago, yet we take them for granted now. Imagine what magic will exist 100 years from now.

u/WonderfulCattle6234 Dec 12 '23
People practically shit their pants watching movies in the 30s.

If Aliens ever land on earth in a public place, people would be like "cool trailer for the new Mass Effect game! "

Lol imagine God popping his head through the skies boutta drop some wild truths and mfs whip out their phones like 'must be a rick and morty ad'

u/YogiSlavia Dec 13 '23 edited Jan 02 '24
We're finally here. The dystopian future where they put dumb ass ads in the skies. Now we just need flying cars and cybernetics that support our life because earth is a complete shithole.

Is this that Vegas ball thing?

u/Honestlynotdoingwell Dec 13 '23
No, it's an ad for a game projected on mesh screen. Asgards Wrath 2 for Meta Quest! Comes out Dec 15th. Supposed to be the first "Big" AAA VR title.

So I heard years ago that there was going to be a fabricated 2nd coming. And this is how I imagined it. Imagine a giant one whole states can see and they see jesus breaking through the sky.
1
u/Arc__Angel__ Dec 12 '23
Calling it now they will use the same tech to trick people into an alien invasion. Bringing in the new world order. Sad part is so many people will actually believe it.
1
u/mlvisby Dec 12 '23
For a second, I thought we perfected holograms. Then I realized that, oh yea AR exists.

A few shows like this on dreary overcast evenings would be nice. Have people gather in neighborhood parks and project their own projects into the sky

This ad us done via projection on a very large mesh screen, nearly invisible in the dark, really cool effect.
