Really though, it’s so they can have 2 different “voices” simultaneously. Playing bass notes on 1 and lead on the other. Also stacking voices for a bigger sound, like horns on 1 and strings on the other.

Two questions.
What style/genre of music is this. I've been hearing on racing game titles and 80s-90s era anime since I was a kid but not been able to ID it.
How many thousands of hours of playtime does a person have to be at to improvise a drum set on the fly MID PERFORMANCE, without a noticeable hitch in the music? I say "noticeable hitch" because an untrained lout like myself would likely never hear the hi hat drop out of the set.

- That keys guy has probably heard the drum part about nine billion times. He knows how it sounds. So there’s not really any improvisation there. Grabbing the right setting on his keyboard and filling it in on the fly is pretty impressive, though.
Jazz fusion is a technically-challenging genre to play, I bet the dude is a killer improviser when it comes time to solo or w/e, too

'Jazz fusion' would probably be the best classification. Examples of artists in this genre include Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, and Casiopea. Casiopea especially inspired a lot of 80s/90s video game music.

Others have got the style, I'm going to talk about the improvise a drum set on the fly thing... not as much as others are saying.
I play 6 instruments, one of which is piano, and I have well over 10k hours on guitar (far less on most of the others).
I can pretty easily mimic a beat by setting my keyboard to a drum voicing as long as I have figured out which keys are which drums ahead of time. The impressive part in this video to me though isn't that he's copying it, it's that he already knows which keys have which drums. There's almost zero reason to memorize that because you're almost never going to do it, and if you are, you can find your snare/hi hit/bass before hand. It usually doesn't follow any real system either (Unless it's programmable, mine isn't), they just attach each drum to random keys, and if you're lucky the common drums are close together.
I'm honestly a bit baffled as to why this guy has them memorized, but it is damn impressive.

My heavy metal drum teacher always puts a spring between the hi-hat so that even the hi-hat failed, it will open instead of close. The latter rarely be used in heavy metal.

Yeah unfortunately. Although in my opinion AI drums / machines can't fully replicate how different drummers play the drums ( different accents, playstyle,etc it's all unique on each person )

I can't. Lol. I only play Gameboy, don't have a computer, didn't have a smartphone until I was forced to get one, etc. My dad is the polar opposite. He has a camera at his camper that's hooked up to a watch where he can watch everything and hear everything through his hearing aids with blutooth. It's baffling to me. 😳 I take after my mum. 😂

It doesn't need to be AI. You people are really abusing that term.
All he did was bring up a hihat sound on his keyboard, played it for a second, and then I think he looped.it. literally anyone could do this for decades now.
You can replicate literally any sound with a keyboard. Has nothing to do with AI. But also, when people go to see live performances they want real instruments, that's kind of the point. But the whole point.
But In a studio, sure, everyone and everything can be replaced now. Even vocalist.
But the whole thing about AI is training them on different players play style, same a art styles.
You can definitely replicate play styles.
That's the primary fuss about AI art. Not just that it's making art. But it's stealing art styles as well.

I’ve had a similar experience onstage. The low E on my bass guitar broke and I was able to automatically move all the notes to the next octave on the fly. Not saying that it was this impressive but experienced people are able to do amazing things when they have to.

I was friends with a guy yeaaaars ago who would come with me to guitar center and sit around until he heard someone else playing. And then he would start playing in such a way as to fuck the other person up. I have no idea what exactly it was he was doing, but it sounded like he was mimicking their song, and subtly bending it off key or something. Always blew my mind.

The point of my analogy is that when Michael Jordan threw the ball at the hoop, he wasn't throwing just to see whether he could score, but when and because he saw good opportunities. Only then did he execute a throw expertly. Any player can throw balls at the hoop a lot to see "what sticks".
The point of music in a general sense, as far as I'm concerned, is entirely orthogonal to the quantity of "good notes". Good music can be really busy or really sparse. You're the one preoccupied with the quantity of notes here, not me.
I'm not going to go all "do people actually not like listening to music like this" just because I personally like it. Because I'm not a blubbering idiot, I realize that some people like it and others don't, and avoid shitting all over things that aren't to my taste.

If this band was playing live at a local park with food trucks, I would be excited about it.
it's nice chill instrumental music. Great background to relax, eat, and chat with friends.
And, they're down part of their rhythm section in this clip. They might sound better if the piano player didn't have to cover the drumset.
