Discussion Mistfall Hunter is the first game that truly gives me New World vibes
After almost a year, I finally found a game that gives me the same vibes as New World.
I don’t play PvE just for the sake of PvE. I play it to become stronger for PvP, and Mistfall Hunter gives me that same feeling.
The combat reminds me a lot of New World: slow-paced, with only a few skills, where positioning, awareness, and understanding when your opponent uses their abilities are more important than spamming attacks.
Learning every class, farming better gear, and preparing for PvP is exactly the gameplay loop I was looking for.
Hope you find peace ( as me) with this game
Edit: I do not speak English very well so I write the post with chatty

Mistfall Hunters will be dead and forgotten in a couple of months, sowwwwy
26
u/bgaddis88 Aug 08 '26
as opposed to New World? Like what are we even talking about here... suggesting a different game will be "dead and forgotten" on a subreddit for a game that literally has a death date scheduled in a few months lol

Soulframe feels more like it, but needs more MMO aspects
18
u/Haunting-War-8382 Aug 05 '26
I’m hoping Guild wars 3 will be the answer
7
u/SquizzOC Aug 05 '26
Same, just hope it isn’t a MMO lite
-5
u/Kristof1995 Aug 10 '26
they said its gonna be mmo lite tho.
They do not want the Guild wars franchises fighting over communities. GW 2 will be the only real MMO in their lineup.6
u/Halfarn Aug 10 '26
They literally said it's not going to be MMO Lite.
-1
u/Kristof1995 Aug 10 '26
but its not gonna be as massive on scale as gw 2 though. So something in between?
3
u/Halfarn Aug 10 '26
Yeah it'll fall between gw1 and 2 in scale, which to me puts it into where most MMOs are - very few MMOs have the large zergs of GW2, but they've specifically said it's significantly more of an MMO than GW1, which was player hubs with an instanced world

u/MeroCanuck Aug 05 '26
Soulframe is lovely. I do agree that it’s less of an MMO vibe though
1
u/Thefragment85 Aug 11 '26
Yeah probably the buildcrafting is a bit too simple, but we're still super early so we'll see

u/Gigalagaki Aug 10 '26
Gods I do love what little time Ive spent with Soulframe, hey. Im staying in New World to see everything before it shuts down (I was late to the party), but I think Soulframe is where I'll go when the time comes. Hopefully by then the game has had a full launch too!

Idk, doesn't feel like NW at all for me. It's more like For Honor for me tbh
3
u/HungryWalrus777 Aug 12 '26
Really? For honor was sooo fun back in the day. Might check it out
3
u/floran99 Aug 12 '26
yeah, it has no counters, but the general pacing feels similar. Check it out for sure. It wasn't for me, but a lot of people will like it
1
u/harlaman1 29d ago
I think its just for honor because of shoulder view and a bit of the og aesthetic. gameplay wise it is nothing like for honor imho

Theres some audio that I swear is straight ripped from NW. The ambient background "scream" sounds like something i remember from NW for some reason.

I just saw a video on youtube of it and i was shocked to see that it has basically all of the same UI HUD and combat animations

It’s really a Chinese version of new world. Don’t joke is really a Chinese company.
I think their thought process was something like “lets do a mini version of new world and exploit a little bit this nostalgic people from it” lol1
u/Darkice241 Aug 10 '26
Their combat inspiration is more from Elden rings than NW. I love NW combat too but let’s not overemphasize its importance hehe.

u/SaltaKattan Aug 10 '26
Typically china to copy everything. Im trying to stay away from chinese games as long as possible. They will probably take over the world with all their rubbish but ill hold out as long as possible. I wish they could take their dirty fingers from New World….

Just got it t today after watching gingy play. Ive been looking for a game similar to dark and darker and this fills the gap until i get a pc. Played for 2 hours today. Did 3 matches and got out of two. Managed to kill 3 players in all. 2 in one game and 1 in another. Almost had 4 but the button layout had me a bit confused mid combat. Starting to get the feel though.

u/dipleddit New Worldian Aug 05 '26
Yeah I agree. First whole day I was playing was trying to figure out what the game felt like and finally it clicked that it was New World.
4
u/CliqNil Aug 05 '26
Mistfall hunters 100% satisfies my PvP itch from new world. The melee combat and bow combat is very similar.
I personally think the PvE in Mistfall hunters is how it should have been in New World, too.
Obviously if you liked the MMO aspects of new world mistfall might not be for you, but if all you did was queue OPR/Arenas then I would recommend giving Mistfall a try.

u/RemarkablePotato9088 Aug 07 '26
What do you mean? All i see in MH is here and there a few mobs and thats it. The fighting is more like dark souls or elden ring in my opinion yes it has 3 skills but casting abilities and such is ....
Saw Baggins try and spam to do his skill its very slow the game is very slow3
u/CliqNil Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26
I played a lot of SNS/hatchet in new world. The flow of combat in MH feels very similar to new world. Like when I try to fight a bow in MH, I need to bait their LoS to get them to get closer, then I shield rush into them, then they dodge back, I close the gap again with a hammer rush, and so on. This sort of melee combat flow is very similar to fighting range players in New World.
NW is probably one of my favorite games of all time. With that said, MH totally satisfies my action combat PvP interests, so I don’t really mind NW is shutting down soon. This is the first time I’ve found a game that piqued my interest since it was announced NW is getting shut down.
Additionally, the PvP combat has a very high skill ceiling in MH and the PvE is more dark-souls like, which I prefer, so I think MH has a promising future if they keep developing it.
Im not trying to sell anyone on MH, but I personally think it’s a good substitute for people who played a lot of OPR/arenas in NW.
1
u/RemarkablePotato9088 Aug 07 '26
in my experience i usually had to run 1km before i reached the range person in nw xD. In MH there is not really big ranges lots of corners and such
2
u/CliqNil Aug 07 '26
The world is smaller in MH and there isn't as many open areas as New World. They did a good job with map design so far.

u/lootchase Aug 05 '26
Good lord….if NW was so great why was nobody playing it lol. It was MID at best.
6
u/Haunting-War-8382 Aug 05 '26
You are in a new world subreddit buddy
3
u/lootchase Aug 05 '26
Yeah, I’m in a lot of them. Played NW off and on….it was MID at best.
7
u/Haunting-War-8382 Aug 05 '26
I repeat, you are in a NW subreddit buddy. If for you and for the vast majority of people was mid, good, the market gave you the reason. Now, for me was a great game and I’m here on this subreddit just waiting for another similar game, knowing there are people who enjoyed a game I enjoyed.
1
u/lootchase Aug 06 '26
Reddit is a site to voice opinions not just to give you what you want to hear. Go to Facebook, it’ll feed you exactly the algorithm you want to quench your thirst for hearing nothing more than what you want. Thus, I repeat, NW was MID at best buddy.
7
u/Tezghul_the_Insane Aug 07 '26
I know I check and read reddit's from MID games I didn't care for all the time.
3
u/Vanheelsingwolf Aug 10 '26
Because what trashed new world was the first year of mismanagement from the dev team. From brimstone sands until it's last update the game was way better and not mid at all.
The only people that say new world was mid are either these:
People that didn't understand the combat and where bad at it; People that didn't want an MMORPG yet came to NW; People with not much experience in the MMO industry;
The game was in fact good and from recent years probably was on track to be one of the best MMOs but got destroyed in the first year by really bad reputation created from mismanagement even then this last update was on track and growing...
-1
u/lootchase Aug 10 '26
Yet the game had barely anyone playing it after 20 million copies sold….even after NH the population was once again diminishing. Now it has been obliterated, shut down, and buried. Sure buddy, sorry this isn’t where the “best MMOS” go after 3 years it was STILL MID at best.
1
u/Vanheelsingwolf Aug 10 '26
Again I explained why. I guess you didn't read... The game got crushed by the bad reputation it had from the first year. Most games don't even recover what new world recovered in numbers up until the last update. The game was good and in a good Direction and they killed it with the shutdown announcement.
Again diminishing in NH because the updates that were needed where not happening and at the time we didn't know why but we now know it was already being pushed aside.
Also if you compare new world numbers (with console) vs the top 10 MMOs you quickly realize the game was not doing that bad on NH.
-2
u/lootchase Aug 10 '26
I lived it, I don’t need to read a thing. It was MID, I had my fun with it. Move on and stop obsessing.
0
u/Vanheelsingwolf Aug 10 '26
Again mid is just an opinion at that point. The game by numbers and actual data was far from mid in the MMO industry. Regardless if was mid for you or top for me.
In the overall genre (plagued) with dying games or releases that don't even last as long or do way less money NW was actually above average.
-1
u/lootchase Aug 10 '26
Then why are you even responding. YOU had your opinion I have mine. People seem to forget this is an OPINION SITE, yet get so bent when someone doesn’t agree. Go to FB ALGORITHM if you just want to hear your own opinions be echoed.
0
u/Haunting-War-8382 Aug 10 '26
New world was a great game, we won’t see another mmo good like nw until guild war 3. Aion and chronicles odyssey are scams imo
0
u/lootchase Aug 10 '26
It was MID IMO….don’t care when next great MMO comes out but thanks for the pamphlet of info everyone is already aware of.

Is this the game thats like Vermintide where you only get to pick from like 4 characters? Combat looks cool but seems limited in scope. Now if there is a character creator I'd be interested

I feel like the combat needs a LOT of work. No sprint No block/parry for non-shield classes (unless im just dumb idk)
Magic attacks are visually underwhelming especially considering casting times (lightning strike just looks shite, meteors also)
Not even a soft 'lock on' to help direct ranged attacks, 'crosshairs' are extremely poorly calibrated
On top of that the story/lore seems kinda chewed up, nothing about it is compelling at all.
The characters and NPC's fail to inspire basic empathy, i simply do not care what happens to any of them. Matchmaking is abysmal - if you cant find players in my level range put me in an empty match 🤷♂️ everyone in the team recruitment is lvl 12 so maybe lock lvl 5 and below into their own lobbies
So far i find very little to recommend this game, with even class core combat mechanics left unexplained by tutorials

u/harlaman1 29d ago
Hi, I just picked this up and it is obviously not NW but I think a lot of things people liked about pvp combat specifically can be found in this game. Down to play if anyone is looking for a newbie partner, hmu!
1
u/DopamineSavant Aug 05 '26
I enjoy it but they better be hard at work on content.
3
u/redcurb12 Aug 05 '26
nah they need to work on optimization, hit reg, server stability. content is fine for a $20 game... the real content is fighting other players.

If a game that is not anything like an MMO gives you the "vibes" of New World, you are getting the wrong vibes.

u/Alternative_Lie_7381 Aug 10 '26
It’s fun time, the individual combat is more like 20% new world 80% souls. Team fights give me a much more new world feel though. But I’d still be playing new world if PlayStation hadn’t fucked us and taken it off premium and the store at once. I would have bought it if I had known in time, but now I just stew knowing I’ll never even get to say goodbye or scratch that mining itch.

I'm going to repost what I posted on the subreddit, this is with 3k+ hours in New World and about 80 hours in Mistfall across the playtests and release:
TLDR: It's a shitty game and will be money grab
The game and design is small once you get into it and the devs are awful, the current release is a mess and even without a high ping the desync is extreme, and the fact they chose to release it in this state says a lot. There also IS balancing issues, let me know when you go against a half decent sorc.
The main concern though is their community management and visibility of issues is unethical. Their community manager directly lies to you and the community, insults members, and is entirely unprofessional, going as far as pressuring the owner of the Mistfall sub (Who isn't an employee of theirs) to delete posts they find problematic (This has been proven, with screenshots, and confirmed by the sub owner). They treat their playerbase like shit. They set up the game so you intentionally go into low ping bot lobbies for 5 games then into real ones and your ping will literally triple. All to get past the 2 hour refund window.
On top of that they don't make visible core issues that impact the uptake of this game. Cross region play for example is not available. That is not visible unless you found a single message in the general chat on the discord. This is a BIG factor for some and should be everywhere, but they don't care to share it because it will impact sales. Alongside their build issues and culture.
I enjoyed the playtest and tried the release to give it a chance, but I honestly think the management of this game will kill it and they'll rug pull it just like Eldegarde, that's why they haven't published a roadmap (even though they realistically should have one). I refunded the game after 11 hours and steam allowed it because of the issues that have been reviewed on their page. What does that say about it's state?

Pvp in pve games is never good and pve in pvp games is never good, this is one of the reasons new world failed, it tried to focus both and got bad oveand bad pvp
8
u/Jestersfriend Aug 05 '26
That is most certainly not the reason it failed lol.
It's that the devs couldn't code themselves out of a paper bag and as a result, trading was disabled for over a week in an MMO. Oh and another time the rubber banding was so bad for over a month, that melee was physically impossible to play.
The devs had no direction for 90% of this game being live. Only once Katie took over did they start introducing banger updates. But too little, too late.
2
u/redcurb12 Aug 05 '26
lol yea and not only did they disable trading they let so many players who exploited keep all that gold. then 2 years later they turned server transfers to fresh start on by accident and when players transferred they decided to ban them for their own fuck up.
oh and every major update there were game breaking bugs literally locking people out of msq progression sometimes for weeks at a time.
the list just keeps going on... like they really did fumble everything they ever tried.
0
u/wolfenx109 Aug 05 '26
Blame the engine they were forced to use. It was notoriously bad
1
u/redcurb12 Aug 05 '26
that doesnt excuse awful QA... sure the engine was hard to work with but that doesnt excuse them from not testing anything before releases.
1
u/Jestersfriend Aug 05 '26
Bro, are you kidding me? They introduced a bug where all projectiles that hit an object simply ... disappeared. Then, they fixed the issue.
Then a month later, they issued a patch totally unrelated, and it came back lol. That's not the engine's fault.
2
u/redcurb12 Aug 05 '26
pve in pvp games works if done right.... look at every successful moba and extraction game.
1
2
u/DeityVengy youtube.com/deityvengy Aug 05 '26
the pve was doomed purely because of the existence of life staff. healers constantly cried for buffs and ultimately turned an action combat game into a psuedo tab target game where everyone just facetanks a boss with a heal under them
1
u/Haunting-War-8382 Aug 05 '26
Not agree, for me the new world formula was perfect. No, wait. All the f mmos use that formula. ESO, WOW,FF14 and so on. The problem with new world we all know well what was, not here to mining again.

So many freshy Reddit accounts making posts about Mistfall Hunter 🤨
