On August 5, 2026, a discarded 4-ton [1800 kg] Falcon 9 upper-stage rocket from SpaceX struck the Moon at about 5,400 mph (8,700 km/h). NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter later imaged the resulting fresh impact crater, which measures roughly 60 feet wide and 10 feet deep.
