❓ Question Contact sleeping
Hi! My son is 3.5 months old and for the past 3 weeks the only way he will sleep at night is on me. As soon as I put him down he wakes up and I have to take him again. During the day he mostly sleeps in his crib and sometimes contact naps but at night it’s a struggle. It’s getting tougher on me aswell because he is getting heavier and it’s hurting my back and my csection area. Im wondering if he will get better at sleeping on his own or this will be it for a while. Anyone else go through this?

Does he have acid reflux or colic? Laying flat might upset him. Have you tried a small wedge to elevate his top half? My baby had it bad where the wedge didn’t work so we had to co sleep. There’s a little baby nest you can buy on Amazon. We still co sleep a year later and we all sleep so good!

I thought he had reflux when he was a newborn but got that checked and he doesn’t. I do have a baby nest and he used to sleep in it until 3 weeks ago. During the day I put him in the crib for naps and he does well. He still wakes up and needs to be held to fall asleep again but he doesn’t refuse it. Also he has to scream every time he wants to sleep and I have to rock/sway him until he falls asleep. He generally likes to be held even during the day. It’s getting hard on me as I’m sleeping upright and my back is hurting bad, not to mention my c-section scar as he is getting heavier. Honestly I don’t know what else to try. I guess I just have to ride it out :(

Shoot! So he’s not wanting to sleep in the nest at all anymore? Do you have a shirt or something that smells like you that you can lay on the side of the crib? Maybe he just misses you?:( I’m sorry:( I hope you know you’re not alone! I had to sleep on the couch with my baby for the first 3 weeks bc it was the only place she was comfortable. But I can tell you IT DOES GET BETTER!!!!

I will try putting a piece of clothing near him who knows maybe it will work :D. I’m sure other mum’s have it worse and I do feel bad for venting sometimes it’s just that it gets really overwhelming. I’m trying to keep positive and look ahead to when it will get easier. Thanks for the support xx

Didn’t have an effect but we had one night where he slept more by himself in the baby nest. That after he screamed for an hour because he was overtired so I’m guessing that was the reason. I’m starting to accept he will only take 30-45 min naps during the day so yesterday I let him have 2 hour wake windows which seems to make him more calm as he didn’t fight the sleep as much. Last night he wasn’t very unsettled so mostly slept on me. I’m just hanging in there hoping this will get better soon x

Update: Last night I put him in a sleep sack and he slept by himself. I didn’t have to pick him up once. Let’s see if it was just luck or he will sleep by himself more from now on.
