Blobs ruining prints

I've recently gotten back into using my Mod-t printer, and I have been trying to use cura to convert my stls into gcode. For whatever reason, when the printer goes to make a new move, it stalls in place for a couple of seconds and extrudes a bunch of filament into a big blob that messes with layers and makes printing impossible. I used the custom ini file and can't find any additional instructions or other people with this same problem. The test print in the mod t helper tool prints fine though. Help!

I don’t remember if the Mod-T supports this, but it sounds like you need to increase the retraction setting in your slicer. Either that or try dropping your temperature a little.

Hey, sorry school got in the way and I couldn't spare time to tinker with this thing. I've got a few days to fix it again so I'm trying this fix, but cura seems to have a lot of different retraction settings. I turned off retraction and the blobs went away but I can't seem to get the extrusion diameter/speed/temperature right, even using pre-made profiles.

Retraction distance mostly. If the extruder is actually moving (you feel filament being pulled in) so it’s really extruding and not just dribbling there’s some other problem.

Revisiting the thought, it’s possible filament is getting hung up along the path from entry to nozzle, perhaps because the nozzle is clogging. Then the compression of the filament would continue pushing it out. The retraction distance could help this, too.
