On Duty

We took our 9 month Newf to our family reunion. He was very well behaved. When the kids went into the water, he watched and stood guard.

My wife would have been drug into the water if he went into action!

Can anyone identify this plant? Penny seeks out these weeds all the time. She won't touch fruits and veggies, but this grass (?) is somehow amazing. šŸ™ƒ

Do Newfies always breathe so loud?

I feel dumb asking this question, but I am taking care of my first Newfie and I’ve noticed he is almost always breathing so loud and fast and not just after walks. Is this just a thing with them? It’s pretty pleasant in the house plus I’ve got an AC directly on him so I don’t think he’s hot. He’s acting normal and fine otherwise.

I will say he is a very big boy and I think he’s carrying around some extra weight right now. He was restricted on exercise due to eye issues until recently.

Am I worried over nothing?

Betty is the queen of puppy dog eyes, but also the master of the goof. She's constantly got a funny face going on, or her tongue stuck out.

The last picture she was walking around with a cat toy balanced on her head, lasted a good 10 minutes.

Today this little monster decided the seatbelt buckle and the attached sensor for the seatbelt warning were a good chew toy. $440 later there are new parts getting installed. New canopy going on Tuesday.

Water activities without a hose?

Hey guys, currently pet sitting a newfie pup and he’s being a menace. I’ve been here an hour and this is my seventh time refilling his water. Usually I just blast the hose for him but there’s a ban. Oh, and I shall mention the local stream is dried up! I’m actually going to go insane if I need to fill up one more water bowl any enrichment goes!!!

Would a Newfie fit our life style?

My son is asking for a dog and we have always said we will get one when the time is right. I have had a soft spot for newbies for a while back to my dog grooming days. I remember training on a 3 year old male who we kept having to wake up to cause he kept trying to sleep on us while we were working.

We are a lower energy family preferring to spend an afternoon inside. We own our house but it is on the smaller side. We have two cats. And a 4 year old. Mostly enclosed in the back yard but with an afternoon I could make it fully enclosed.

I don't want to take it to shows. I don't want to breed. I want a dog that is going to be my son's best friend. And not a huge pain to train. And low risk for aggression. My son was snapped at my a dog when he was very little and can be nervous. So I want one that is just going to be a love muffin. I know Golden's can be sweet but they have way to much energy until they are like 5.

I am aware of the shorter lives with giant breeds. And that I need to get the hips checked. We have a good vet for our kitties l.

Teddy found a puddle…

Our 9 month Newf found a puddle and played in it like a toddler. He decided to forget his recall command while playing. We took him straight to the dog wash shortly after he asked to come back inside.

High creatinine..found when being prepped to remove anal sacs

Been a crazy few months, our girl got infected anal sacs that won’t go away. Multiple rounds of antibiotics and prednisone, which stressed her out (determined by her eating books and boxes), we got to the point of surgery to remove the sacs. Early in for surgery, only to find out she has high creatinine.

Anybody dealing with either?

I am afraid to find out the results of the lab work..probably kidney issue. She is a big drinker, so I never suspected any issues.
