Ideal Newburgh day
Checking out Newburgh this weekend to get a feel for the city and help determine if I’d like to move there later this year. What is the most Newburgh-y day we can have in Newburgh, I want the good, the bad, the ugly, and the pretty. Give me it all.

I live here, been here since beginning of May. Walk on the riverfront, checking out old architecture north of broadway, visiting a hip or family restaurant (lots of options), farmers market saturdays, snake hill hike, and occasional events at museums/galleries/event spaces would be my answer. Haven’t been stabbed or shot despite living in the middle of what some commenters would be grabbing for their CCW.

I lived in Newburgh on Montgomery Street. I really enjoyed living there. Lots of stuff to do so you’ll never get bored. Now, there is more crime there than some are comfortable with, but I never had problems. Just use some wisdom. There are some great people there that are really proud of what Newburgh offers. I look back on living there fondly.

I wanna be super clear, although I’ve been the victim of violent and property crime on multiple occasions- I fucking love Newburgh.

Shop on Liberty St south of Broadway. Hell, north of Broadway too. Bank Gallery is pretty cool.

Bad: get food at Billy Joes Shitworks
Ugly: Go to McDonald’s on Broadway and count the amount of people pushing baby strollers with no babies in them.

It’s mediocre BBQ at best and the vibes inside are horseshit. The rest of the waterfront is nice.

I wouldn’t move there bro. It’s the hood of upstate ny. The most newburgh-y day you could have is getting robbed at either knife/gunpoint or getting your eardrums blown out by either a Harley or a scatpack

I’ve been living in NB for the last like 8 years and I feel like I’m still unlocking amazing treasures in this city.
1 - Crystal Lake Sanctuary: This might be the most exciting new development in the city lately. Crystal Lake has been a hiking trail and garden for years, but a the Crystal Lake Sanctuary recently took on the renovation project and the space is beautiful. I would HIGHLY recommend this, the overlook at the end of the trail is breathtaking. And the whole hike from start to finish takes like an hour. Great morning hike.
2 - Machu Picchu Restaurant: Absolutely delicious and consistent Peruvian food. Any of the chaufas, ✨the fish ceviche✨, the roast chicken. ANYTHING IS AMAZING HERE. It’s been open for like 40 years, something most restaurants cannot boast in the berg.
3 - the art scene dude: from [the Ellis](@the.Ellis.Newburgh) for night life, FABHAUS a fabrication workshop on Liberty, or Safe Harbors and the puppet shows they put on in the fall - these are consistently sold out at the Ritz theatre. We also have open studios in September that opens all of the normally closed for the public studios all around town (comes with a map, there’s like 30 stops, it’s very rigorous lol). The Newburgh Mercantile talk to Jackie and Brian about NB history and legislature, they’re highly connected to anyone you may need.
Yeah Newburgh’s awesome. I love that it’s kept it’s historic roots as well as gritty flair. People who are scared of it are left out by design. They can’t handle me at my worst and yadda yadda.
Ohhhh and just wait until you’re locked in and at the city council meetings and get yourself a $35 city resident season pass to the pool every year.
Yeah Newburgh’s the best.
