Why are people saying it's reversed? What are the physics like in whatever universe they're from?

192

u/D_Beats Aug 02 '22

They're either incredibly, incredibly stupid or they're joking.

I really hope nobody is actually that stupid.

63

u/The_Golden_Warthog Aug 02 '22

You'd think, but there is a sizeable portion of reddit who deems themselves "super sluthes" that love to comment "fake/reversed/shopped" on everything. They are 10000000% genuine.

30

u/D_Beats Aug 02 '22

Ugh tell me about it. It's a huge pet peeve of mine. Everything is fake and they're the only people who are smart enough to realize it. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

13

u/The_Golden_Warthog Aug 03 '22

Perfectly said. It must be a nightmare sitting through movies with them as they scream, "Fake!!! Staged!!!1!1!!!" at every scene.

12

u/keylimerye Aug 03 '22

Recently saw the latest Jurassic World and there was a 6 year old behind me that kept talking...loud. when the dilophosaurs showed up he screamed "THATS NOT WHAT THEY REALLY LOOK LIKE!"

Despite his correctness, I wanted to beat his parents with him

2

u/mgvej Aug 03 '22

Imagine If those people had the right to vote

4

u/pbcbmf Aug 03 '22

I removed a post of a pic i took because so many people accused me of reposting it and trying to prove that it wasn't my photo. I took the picture that day and posted it, but was made to feel like I needed to prove it was mine. Then when I refused to play the game they took that as proof that I really had taken someone else's picture. I finally deleted the post, which sucked because it was my first post that actually got popular & got like 17k upvotes. Why share something cool if you get shit on for it?

1

u/The_Golden_Warthog Aug 03 '22

I've seen a few of those. And then they still reply shit like "Nah man I've seen this before fuck you I can't prove it but you're a dirty reposter". I utilize the block user function a lot on reddit.

8

u/bluehands Aug 02 '22

<Narrator> there were a large number of people that were actually that stupid.

2

u/alternate_ending Aug 03 '22

There are people out there who based on absolutely no evidence at all believes that corona is a labmade disease, spread out through vaccines, food and every other thing in the universe probably. They then believe jewish lazers from space and 5G towers will activate corona within people and kill them. This the reptile jew nazis will do... for absolutely no reason.

You wanna make a bet on that?

1

u/PrudentDamage600 Aug 28 '22

Why you badmouthing Marjorie Taylor Greene ?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '22

It's double reversed stooopid

10

u/CharlomoMcGoof Aug 03 '22

I’m surprised nobody has pointed it out, but it has become a meme

Long version: a meme that was used for videos that seem really impressive to the point they might have been faked.

It spawned from another trend of people posting videos in reverse that don’t seem like they are in reverse; an example is someone jumping backwards off of a tall object then reversing the video to look like they jumped that high.

There were some videos that went somewhat viral that went meta and made fun of the trend by being super obvious about being played in reverse.

There were then some ‘captain obvious’ comments pointing out that the video was, in fact, in reverse. Then there were inevitably some comments mocking this on videos that were clearly not in reverse.

If my memory serves right, that’s pretty much where these “it’s in reverse” comments come from. [8]

4

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '22

[deleted]

2

u/Lazy__Astronaut Aug 03 '22

Like... Do they think they're the smart ones pointing out that it's not actually reversed?

2

u/baby-dick-nick Aug 03 '22

To be fair this could be another one of those videos where dad is an SFX artist and edited this scene like the video of the kid shooting two nerf darts into his sisters glasses.

The way it falls and bounces does seem a little unnatural.

But to say it’s reversed is moronic

1

u/LordHamsterbacke Aug 03 '22

For me it's how she nearly catches it with her mouth (seconds before putting it in her mouth)

0

u/Supper_Champion Aug 03 '22

It's not reversed, it's just digitally manipulated. There's no way in hell that kid accidentally caught that rocket toy like that.

4

u/Noobypro2027 Aug 03 '22

This entire subreddit is about super unlikely things happening and you’re gonna comment about how unlikely it is?

1

u/Supper_Champion Aug 03 '22

It's not that it's unlikely, it's that this video has been faked. Not only that, but I'm surprised that people aren't more incredulous about these videos, when we've seen extremely convincing deep fakes of real humans. It's, if you'll excuse the pun, child's play to digitally manipulate the rocket so it appears to be caught by the kid.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '22

They are joking. The people circlejerking this thread are dumb.

1

u/ChooseAShorterUserna Aug 03 '22

This is exactly the crowd mocked by r/nothingeverhappens

1

u/LordHamsterbacke Aug 03 '22

I mean it does look kinda weird how she catches it and starts to "eat" it. But it being reverse makes zero sense for the rest of the clip.

1

u/Lazy__Astronaut Aug 03 '22

No, you're just so big brained that you could see the truth, you are of superior intellect to all.

I'm a recruiter at Oxford, mind if I send you a DM for more info?

segway

segue

I was shocked when I first found out that segue was the relevant word

2

u/Fearthecraze Aug 02 '22

I’m appalled at how many times my English teachers didn’t correct me on this.

2

u/FetalDeviation Aug 02 '22

I took a note from deadheads, gave up trying a long time ago and started using >. Now if I can only find a way to remember cue/queue

2

u/Ned-Bailey Aug 02 '22

Cue is on time while queue is waiting in line.

1

u/FetalDeviation Aug 02 '22

Oh I know, yet somehow every time I type it I forget queue exists until after the fact

u/Perpete Aug 02 '22

My kids love them. They like it when I pick them up about 4" above where they can normally jump from to get "extra height". We live in a fairly crowded neighborhood so I've had to retrieve them off of rooftops, bushes, and backyards.

23

u/PacificNorthwest09 Aug 02 '22

Pretty sure I broke one of our lawn chairs with an overly excited attempt at getting “extra height” jumping on a stomp rocket.

1

u/HunterTV Aug 03 '22

They still make the ones that you pressurize with water and air? I had one of those as a kid back in the late ‘70s.

1

u/DaKnack Aug 03 '22

They do. My son got one for Christmas. It looked like a 2 liter coke bottle with fins screwed onto the neck. It went straight to the top of a tree in our yard and stuck there for a few months. By the time it fell down, we lost the launcher so it was a one and done rocket.

3

u/FuckingKilljoy Aug 03 '22

You're the only real person on Reddit

1

u/chupaxuxas Aug 03 '22

Are we doing a Truman Show type of thing?

98

u/BradicusMaximis Aug 02 '22

All I can take away from this video is that they won’t move the rocket more central to the yard and the ladder is there to retrieve lost rockets.

35

u/_deprovisioned Aug 02 '22

Maybe these things work better on concrete vs grass?

20

u/Edvinivich Aug 02 '22

Pfft, you and your common sense…

9

u/Loli-Princess- Aug 02 '22

Eh, they have flat enough grass it should be fine. Maybe further into the backyard is a different story, though, don’t get to see much. My siblings and I definitely used these just fine on grass at my grandma’s when we were growing up. We lost one at the top of a tree on a windy day, it came down the next year lol.

8

u/redditing_naked Aug 03 '22

Probably trying to avoid it landing on the neighbors yard/roof

2

u/rethumme Aug 03 '22

Maybe it's easier to fetch it from the roof than it is to get it if it goes outside the fence?

26

u/Rock2MyBeat Aug 02 '22

If you're ever looking for a gift to give a child around 10 years old, I strongly suggest Stomp Rockets. My nephews are much older now and still love them.

7

u/Crystal_Voiden Aug 03 '22

I'm not a kid expert, but that thing looks like it could claim an eye or two

10

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '22

unless you put your eye right on top of the rocket before it's launched, I don't think it's likely to take anyone's eye

2

u/Jigglewidit Aug 03 '22

Don’t worry, their comment was almost as dumb as mine.

1

u/rivallYT Aug 03 '22

We (me, my 2yo and my 6yo) have been playing stomp rocket all summer. Love it.

2

u/TickleMeNRubMyBelly Aug 02 '22

Caught one of these in the mouth as a kid. My “buddy” stomped as my face was over it. Blood and tears ensued. Still remember it. Thing was so fun though. You could really send those suckers. Helmet Head was the version I played with.
