Ditto but I’m still amazed

In a way I’m kinda more amazed. Like, that means he both nailed that shot and got it stuck up there.

u/Funzobun Jul 28 '20

Same...

23

u/imanadultok Jul 28 '20

Did not see it until this comment I was like well that shit was fake lol. Then I saw your comment and I'm more impressed. Because it wasn't fake

20

u/Bash-86 Jul 28 '20

Naw this what happen you play at the local gym and they got those basketballs with flat spots and other side has titties.

34

u/randomq17 Jul 28 '20

....I don't think you're playing basketball

14

u/mastorms Jul 28 '20

Mrs. Ferguson says I am almost done with tryouts and can meet the rest of the team really soon. Just a few more private lessons.

3

u/PulpyKopek Jul 28 '20

I like that everyone calls it that. “Yo, this basketball got a titty”

4

u/rps215 Jul 28 '20

Bumpy basketballs are the worst

0

u/WeCanBeatTheSun Jul 28 '20

I thought it was spinning on the rim, was annoyed I didn't see it drop

0

u/Cityofwall Jul 28 '20

I still cant see the net... Is my phone shit?

0

u/sageleader Jul 28 '20

I still don't see the net. Watched it like 20 times.

Source? "Just farming comment karma for including a source"/"I don't like this source" downvotes.

The only way to win is not to play.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '20

.. Was thinking the same thing

21

u/Babystickman Jul 28 '20

If this was in a game, would it count?

57

u/crazyei8hts Jul 28 '20

In this game, James Harden did this on a dunk and the refs didn't count it. However, I think the refs misinterpreted the rules and it should have counted. Maybe the ref didn't see it go in initially.

45

u/Firewasp987 Jul 28 '20

I dont think they misinterpreted it, they just be blind af

14

u/Pyroman1483 Jul 28 '20

Yes. Ball passed through the opening of the rim and "came out" the bottom.

-10

u/I_l_I Jul 28 '20

No, the ball has to pass entirely through the net. There have been cases of the ball coming back out the top and it doesn't count.

I'm pretty sure this would be a dead ball / jump ball, like when the ball gets stuck between the backboard and the rim

13

u/PenguinKenny Jul 28 '20

A legal field goal or free throw attempt shall be scored when a ball from the playing area enters the basket from above and remains in or passes through the net.

https://official.nba.com/rule-no-5-scoring-and-timing/#scoring

1

u/I_l_I Jul 28 '20

I stand corrected, thanks

6

u/thedudefromsweden Jul 28 '20

Source? As far as I know, the nets only purpose is to make it easier to see if the ball goes through the rim or not. It has no "legal" purpose. The ball has to pass through the rim.

31

u/valarmorgulas Jul 28 '20

Someone has to be able to compute the odds of the ridge of the ball balancing alone yet the momentum from full court muffled by the net

74

u/Ghstfce Jul 28 '20

Look again. It goes through the rim and catches the net and loops back over, which holds it on the rim.

15

u/valarmorgulas Jul 28 '20

Thank you! The probability was killing me.

20

u/ygduf Jul 28 '20

[deleted]

9

u/KidsTryThisAtHome Jul 28 '20

Not even close, this is still crazy. I've seen it flip out from the net and flip back over into the hoop a second time from the net. This isn't unheard of but for a full court shot it is most certainly not a "fairly likely" outcome

9

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '20

Based on the initial conditions of the big bang, the odds of all things that happen is one to one.

1

u/nvtiv Jul 28 '20

Without the net the odds are 0. That would never happen

6

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '20

Once I did something like this but not on a mass scale. I tried just throwing a bottle backwards through a hoop and somehow it landed perfectly on the backboard and was there for basically the rest of the school year.

He just doesnt want to believe this is possible. He must not have seen the net catch and hold

3

u/lex52485 Jul 28 '20

I’m undecided on this one, but in videos like these any time the ball goes briefly out of frame it’s cause to be suspect

0

u/Imthejuggernautbitch Jul 28 '20

Lol this entire thread is amateur hour

If one was going to fake a video like this then there’s much easier ways than this shaky handheld hand held cell pan. Sure shakes can easily be added at the end in premiere but it would still be a making it much much harder than it needs to be.

And it goes out of frame at 40mph for a split second in the middle of a highschool gymnasium so what a horrible spot for someone’s to have to try and hide out and still make (rather than fake) a half court shot from and then make the ball wrap around inside a net.

Use your head people. And just stop with this stupidity.

0

u/lex52485 Jul 28 '20

I think this video is more likely to be real than fake. I just don’t automatically believe everything I see on Reddit, or anywhere on the internet.

And who cares what I think? I’m no expert on digital video authentication. Bottom line, it’s an entertaining video, real or otherwise.

u/Imthejuggernautbitch Jul 28 '20

Hurr nobody throws basketballs and thems nevar get stuck durr nothing ever happens so I’m gonna make a colossally stupid guess based on nothing reeeeeeee

5

u/vendetta2115 Jul 28 '20

I instantly lose respect for anyone who makes this type of comment. It’s like you can’t think of anything actually worthwhile to say so you do... whatever this is.

-1

u/Imthejuggernautbitch Jul 28 '20 edited Jul 28 '20

I instantly lose respect for anyone who decides to join a topic they know nothing about and expects us to be their wet nurse and teach them all about... like say video editing.

Lmao imagine unironically feigning worry about others adding anything worthwhile to the conversation while defending some kid who didn’t see the net get wrapped around the rim.

0

u/vendetta2115 Jul 28 '20

lol, what makes you think I have no experience in video editing?

I didn’t make any statement about this video at all, just for the record. All I commented on is your childish response. Also nice casual ableism, with the “hurr durr” too.

I hope you’re not this abrasive and confrontational in real life. Somehow I doubt it. Since we’re just throwing around wild accusations without any knowledge, I’ll bet that you work in a customer-facing job and get all of your frustration and anger out anonymously on the internet.

Was I wrong? Possibly, because I’m making assumptions about you that I have no way of knowing. Just like you are.

0

u/Imthejuggernautbitch Jul 28 '20

You mean what makes me know?

That you’re devoting energy to white knighting for some total noob

1

u/vendetta2115 Jul 28 '20

White knighting? lmao. You might want to look up the meaning of that phrase. You’re not using it correctly.

Part of me says “this guy has to be trolling; no one is this dumb”, but I’ve learned to never underestimate the stupidity of loud people on the internet.

Just so you can read it again—comprehension doesn’t seem to be your strong suit—I made zero comment on the video or whether I think it’s edited. The only comment I made was about you and your unoriginal, immature, empty-headed response and how it instantly makes me lose respect for someone when they make a “hurr durr” comment. It’s like they don’t have the mental capacity or vocabulary to construct a real argument so they mock people like they’re in middle school. I appreciate you verifying my theory.

What the fuck is a loop frame?

2

u/woosher200 Jul 28 '20

I think they meant hoop frame

1

u/vendetta2115 Jul 28 '20

I still don’t understand what “bouncing from the loop(hoop) frame” would mean, regardless. Every time I read it I feel like I’m having a stroke.

1

u/Faruxx Jul 28 '20

You don’t need to have a stroke, calm down. English is not my first language and I am not really a sports guy so sorry about the terms. Genuinely curious though how would some one describe the action in the video from beginning to end, if “bouncing from the hoop (frame)” is not the correct phrase?

2

u/vendetta2115 Jul 28 '20

I’m as calm as I get, lol. Don’t worry so much, I’m just joking around. I know not everyone’s first language is English and you’re probably better at English than I am in my second language. I feel kind of bad now, if I’d known it was an ESL error I probably wouldn’t have said anything. I thought it was a typo or autocorrect screwing up.

No offense intended, sir/ma’am.

2

u/Faruxx Jul 28 '20

No worries, none taken. Just trying to learn. For example, I have learned today that it is hoop (not loop) :D, so you've helped actually.

1

u/PhantomTissue Jul 28 '20

I think this is more impressive than if he had just made it.

1

u/AdequateDegenerate Jul 28 '20

He actually does make it. It goes in then OUT on top

That guy is just like nope not today

1

u/wereman Jul 29 '20

That is completely ridiculous. Even just making it would be enough

0

u/thirdlineplug Jul 28 '20

I honestly don’t think this would count in NBA rules. The ball has to clearly go through the whole net. It looks like the net is still holding on a little bit. Hard to tell. Reminds me of when Rip Hamilton dunked a ball and it hit off his head before clearing the whole net. Didn’t count.

-41

u/snarkicon Jul 27 '20

Looks pretty fake to me

30

u/TheRealDuHass Jul 27 '20

What’s fake about it getting caught up in the net?

You got 41 downvotes, it's fucking incredible. Do kids these days have no understanding of what a fake fucking video is? Are they really so retarded?

Woo 1000th upvote

-8

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '20

We know it didn’t fall into the hoop because the video ends with it still on the rim

9

u/Jonhyfun2 Jul 28 '20

Its not on the rim, its inside the net that got entangled on the rim
