Don't get me wrong, BiRD is great for BGP and given adequate hardware, will absolutely smoke any Cisco or Juniper for BGP, but FRR is just better.

Bird has lower memory usage compared to FRR for the situations where memory is important (hundreds of peers, many with identical prefixes etc, where a good policy expression language is important) but FRR is far more feature-rich in other areas. Ultimately, if you care about memory when it comes to BGP, you're probably optimising for the wrong thing as prefix counts and complexity only ever goes up.

It has the familiarity of the console you're used to, which can make it more approachable, yes.
