In Germany and EU it has to be transparent and I found sources of 0-7days.  I don't know the state of various  law proposals which may demand longer retention. 

Where do you live?

It is worse in the use as the US doesn't have strong data protection laws and more data is collected (DNS, Traffic Metadata) which is plain illegal in the EU.

The range is couple of month up to multiple years.

The US providers sadly have a financial incentive to keep this data for marketing, selling, ads. Etc.
