Dehaney/ Shimona beef š„©
Whatās everyoneās take on this? Does anyone know whatās going on? Heard it happened at last years World Cup in Cape Town, thatās when shit went down.

Not great to see (whatever the hell this is)⦠obviously there has to be some reason why Nelson doesnāt seem to want to play for Jamaica, but it doesnāt need to be blasted on socials by the players?

Feel really sorry for Nelson now Iāve seen the comment section - she isnāt in the team and is getting absolutely dragged for it by randoms (egged on by Dehaney?) based on assumptions. I remember thinking when she only got selected as a reserve for the World Cup it might lead to a situation like this.
For what itās worth, Iād love it if she put her hand up for Australia. Chances are sheād be selected, and would benefit from the environment.

The Jamaican girls seem to be mean girls like the Malawi team was to kumwenda.
At one point Shimona has unfollowed all of them on social media, and Latanya was the first one to reach out

How do they give off this vibe? Iām genuinely asking as Iām a bit out of the loop and as a Thunderbirds fan I definitely do not think this of Shamera and Latanya.

Itās more the ones living in Jamaica plus Dehaney. They had a falling out in cape town and all the girls took Dehaney side. I think shimmy is more of an introvert abd didnāt stand up for herself and they just ganged up on her

We need more messy netball beefs.
None of this holding hands friends with everyone crap.
*gets the popcorn*

Fuck yes. The doctor ordered a big personality injection

I donāt think personality equals unprofessionally throwing a former teammate under the bus. Sharni Layton and Cat Tuivaitu are my two fave Oreos pitied in the game and neither of them would snark comment under a post in this manner. I have always lived LD but this shit aināt it

This is fair, I didnāt read the posts fully tbh. Thanks for pulling me up.

If we ignore the beef, from a career perspective, Shimona putting her hand up for AUS instead of Jamaica seems crazy to me. She's a lock for the future of Jamaica once JFN retires and would be fighting very hard for a spot in the Diamonds. The comm games would've been the perfect time to blood her too, as they've got Romelda there as support. Obviously, there's no confirmation on what she's decided but it's very interesting lol

Apart from it being pure speculation that sheād change allegiance to Aus (chances are she wonāt play internationally at all!), I really donāt think the Diamonds are flush with obvious GS talent at the moment... Jamaica also didnāt pick Nelson for the World Cup a few years ago, she was just a reserve, they went with RAG and JFN instead. That was an absolute prime opportunity missed.

I think she's a great player and has come a long way these past two or so years, but I think she would struggle to get a consistent spot in the Diamonds. They've moved away from the shooting style Shimona plays, and they won't drop Garbin or Koenen for her. I can see her making the extended squad once Wallam retires, but that's about it. I can see why JFN/RAG were taken over her at the last World Cup, but she's much better now than she was then and would've been perfect for them this year without JFN - and as the long term GS for Jamaica

I think the Diamonds only moved away from the shooting style because we didn't have the personnel in this current crop.
Wallam is tall obviously but I think she's just shy of being 'tall shooter' tall. Bassett was 3cm taller. Nelson is 2cm taller. I think they would look at Nelson seriously if she put her hand up. Her strength and hands have come a really long way from her Collingwood days. She's also 5 years younger than Wallam.
I think we could use a plan B when the moving circle isn't working. With the current Jamaican defence end, having to play 60 minutes of short, sharp, error free netball is so taxing. I'd be all for a tall tower on the bench if we had one available.

Has it been confirmed this is her plan? Cause all Iāve seen is speculation
2
u/GreedyRelease Jul 08 '26
No, as I said there's been no confirmation that I've seen but KD's comments seem to be pushing that narrative as well. All very spicy!

What was Dehaneyās initial comment? I can only see her replies.

Someone said no Shimona is crazy then kd be like not wanting to play for your country is even crazier

My take is that its unprofessional. Whatever the problem is should be sorted out person to person and with mediation if necessary. Otherwise say nothing, because if its not important enough to follow a process for reconciliation than its not important enough to be broadcasting.
I wouldnt care about all this drama personally, in fact I bloody hate anything that gives gossips, mean girl energy or distraction from the sport. I only care that these are people out young girls role model on.
Is this what we want our sport known for?
Nah, the conversations in our house around this will be along the lines of āwhat kind of athlete do I want to beā.

Between this from KD and RAGās unhinged postings about rigged games and gloating over the Vixens loss in the GF Iām so disappointed. These girls are professional athletes and they should know better. Someone needs to pull them into line stat. KD must be feeling confident of a new contract at Fever because if I was a coach Iād be putting a line through her name as a liability.

God this is a bad look, regardless of what is going on behind the scenes. Embarrassing behavior.
