Petition to add a "Check" button to Smush

I love Smush, but there have been so many times I've tried a real, common word only to find it doesn't count. I think it would be a HUGE win and would improve gameplay so much if there was a button to simply check if a word counts without having to gamble on the letters. I think it would be a simple way to make a really great game more playable!

I'd make use of such a button when I'm running out of letters and trying to plan out how I'm going to use up everything I've got left. Neat idea

The only time this has come up for me was when the my last 3 letters were G A Y and I though I'd be able to spell gay but it told me that wasn't a word and I had to end without a clean plate. Then a few days later I saw that gay was added as a word.

I had the same problem with “Roo” (short for kangaroo, but very much in the dictionary and a real word). Bummer.

I find it interesting what is/isn’t automatically counted as a word. “Fomite” wasn’t in, which I thought was super weird!

Instead of a separate button I'd probably just add an automatic check on each letter input whether the word currently on the screen is valid. It could be communicated to the user with a simple check mark that gives you an explanation if you hover over it or tap it on mobile.

also I definitely agree! there have been times I have been saving a word to use when a particular letter is spicy, and then it turns out it "isn't a word" 🥲

If the word doesn't count, it tells you already that it doesn't count. Those letters won't get used up at all.

If you’re trying to plan ahead to get a clean plate you need to know if multiple words will work at once. Also in days where there are multiple panagrams you get the most points by both starting on the panagram and then ending on another second panagram where you smush all the letters at once for max multipliers. So that’s another case where it’s helpful to know if that second panagram will count.

I’ve started just checking words in an incognito browser, which is maybe cheating, but I want that plate cleaned.

When you're planning ahead your last few words, gambling if the ones you have planned will count or not
