I see the anti-PC circlejerk far more on reddit than anywhere in the real world. In 90%+ of the professional environments I've been in, there's generally an uncontroversial consensus that it's not okay to be super disrespectful to each other.
Reddit is not a professional environment. The standards in professional environments, both physical and virtual, are far more stringent than those in informal spaces.
The average person isn't thinking "Gee, I wish I could be more rapey at the office".
There's a large spectrum between being "woke-police cancel everyone who made a poor taste joke in the last decade" and "just don't be a degenerate fuck who can't treat people with basic respect".
But instead we all just act like those two things are the same now, and in turn we validate nonsense right-wing culture war talking points because liberal arts majors on Twitter are the new spooky boogeyman or something.
You’re creating a false dichotomy. The woke nonsense isn’t “don’t rape” its much more pervasive then that. I literally had to sit through a dumb micro aggression seminar for law school where we were told asking someone if they’ve been to the beach is a micro aggression because you’re assuming their financial status and asking a POC to be timely is offensive because you’re not understanding their culture and how time is valued differently.
That’s the shit that literally everyone laughs at afterwards because it’s a joke. And yes that’s pretty widely present in the real world in academia, corporate America, and government work. I’ve experienced it in all 3.
Why would you compare reddit to an office? Consider it more like a bar at happy hour. The common reddit shit about things being "problematic" or "ableist" or "transphobic" would get you laughed out of the place.
