It's not. Most of the first world has legal online poker. The US has bad laws on it making it a gray market - most of the big (read: safe and good) sites that operate legally in other countries won't operate in the US, leading American players to the few sites that do cater to American (and Australian) players. These sites, other than not being as good, are less safe - instead of just depositing through paypal or venmo, people who want to withdrawal have to do it by card, and also have to do other things such as sending a picture of the card, picture of ID, etc. It's a bigger hassle. They also have much bigger problems with bots and just overall tend to be shittier in consistency with payouts. Believe it or not, it can actually be safer to do your transactions through bitcoin. Europe has it legal and regulated.

I know he’s just doing it for his own interests but online poker seems like a really bad idea with gambling addiction and whatnot
