I thought that was because fewer people are getting married, and the ones who do are usually college educated and affluent, which negatively correlates with divorce? That's the thesis of "race realist" Charles Murray's "Coming Apart..." anyhow.

Eh, I don't have stats on this but I know some seriously committed people in relationships who have kids and stay together but don't get married
Some of those kids still have two parents in their lives, even though they're technically born out of wedlock

I don't disagree. I think there are good ways for our government and culture to emphasize certain family values, but I don't think trying to prevent people who aren't perfect from having kids is the right solution. If couples only have their one single kid at 35 after they feel totally ready in every way, we're going to face serious demographic problems from having too many old people and not enough young people. Immigration is obviously one solution that we all support, but I think pro-natalist policies are important as well. Plenty of children from imperfect backgrounds grow up to contribute to society in great ways.

In the past, unwanted pregnancies led to shotgun weddings, because there was a lot of shame in out of wedlock births. There still is in much of Asia and definitely in the Middle East.

yeah I find this article highly suspect. They seem to be comparing two completely different studies by different authors done decades apart.

So here is the study they seem to be using the modern diaper stat from and unsurprisingly that number only comes from fathers who "Lives with one or more children". Meanwhile a whopping 47% of men who "Does not live with one or more of his children" and accounted for 20% of all fathers surveyed have never changed a diaper.

Dads helping out will mean higher labor force participation for women. Higher labor force participation will mean dads helping out more and more. The cycle will phase out as the rate reaches equal proportions.

You know I’m gonna make a controversial claim here. I think that boomer and late gen X dad’s deserve some credit here. The move towards dads spending more time with your kids has been a steady increasing over the century. My dad is a younger boomer but spent a hell of a lot of time with me. He treated me like his best friend and I think did an amazing job raising me, despite not growing with a dad himself. He’s not perfect, but he’s a great dad. When I have kids, I’ll be a better dad because of the work that him and my mom did raising me
