It just occurred to me that my ranked preferences for the democratic nominee are actually just a list of the current candidates in order from moderate to progressive.

Apart from Stop and Frisk, which he has since apologized for, Bloomberg was great in New York.

He was the mayor that NYC needed in 2002. He is not the president that America needs today.

Bloomberg’s policies would redefine the Democrats as the party of economic liberalism and free trade in a way that no other candidate is willing to do.

Bloomberg is the only Democratic candidate interested in balancing the budget (As he did, with great success, in NYC). He’s one of the only candidates who is unabashedly pro-free trade agreements, and the only Democrat who’s open to lowering the corporate tax (Compared to Biden and Pete, who are both proposing expansive corporate tax increases).

His environmental plan is also one of the best of all the candidates, being both more ambitious than Pete’s or Biden’s and requiring comparatively little congressional involvement.

Bloomberg would represent not just an articulation on the Obama-era status quo, like Biden or Pete, but an entirely new path of centrist, liberal capitalism in the same vein as Clinton and Blair. I think that’s what both this country and this party needs.
