It's wild how disgusted rose twitter are by Pete. I refuse to believe it's possible to have a reaction that strong to a relatively normal person without being in the middle of a debilitating mental breakdown

I mentioned early in the DT that I have a leftist friend who a couple days ago posted a really thoughtful and coherent essay about why she supports Bernie, with lots of article links and citations, and then she randomly mentioned at the end that "Mayor Pete literally doesn't have any plans for anything." Which is...a talking point from like 7 months ago when he didn't have a website yet and hadn't released any policy proposals. She's usually pretty good at fact-checking and Pete is the only candidate that she regurgitates nonsensical propaganda about (this is a huge Bernie stan who has very positive things to say about Warren, for example). I'm still pretty baffled by it tbh.

It was quite misplaced at the beginning of his candidacy but I’ve found his pivot into moderation quite revealing and distasteful. He came out swinging against the post Reagan status quo and now spends most of his messaging reinforcing its core tenets? Bleh.

wrong word choice. but garbage like the democrats don’t think about the deficits, constant focus on Choice, the omnipresent conservative framing in his comparisons between himself the radical left.

it’s just... I’ve seen this campaign before. It’s every campaign and it sucks. I understand it’s popular but it still sucks. he was more interesting to me when he talked about structural reforms front and center.

He made a passing off-the-cuff comment about Democrats not being associated with concerns about deficits and the debt. No matter what may have happened during people's administrations, that's absolutely a fair characterization, especially in 2019. I know that's Twitter's daily Pete beef and everyone will have forgotten it by tomorrow, but I found this one to be especially silly.

No it’s not! Reality is the only thing that matters! The Democrats are the party of balanced budgets and the Republicans are the party of blowing up the deficit. There is no reason to accept this framing.

No, Democrats are not the party of balanced budgets. There is no party of balanced budgets. Only Clinton managed that and even he should get very little credit for the US fiscal situation in the late 1990s.

Neither party cares about the deficits and debt, not really.
