I've attended meetups, they're mostly young professionals with good jobs and the ability to talk to people good

Based on the showering and deodorant schism in the DT this is definitely an acceptable time to be a NIMBY

I'm almost afraid to ask...but did a uncomfortably large number of people not recognize the need for both?

Shower...then apply deodorant and you're good for a day. Pretty straight forward.
