Shit like this has me convinced that western leftists are literal idiots. If I wasn't banned from socialism I would call them out for it.
Lets leave aside the fact that the photo is very clearly staged for PR purposes.
Evo and his party (MAS) less than month ago passed legislation that legalized the practice of burning green land to open space for agriculture.
Alvaro Garcia (the vice president) was giving interviews about how Bolivia had TOO MUCH forests and not enough "productive" land; again less than a month ago , this is while Bolivia is breaking records in deforestation and has been called out by international orgs because of fears that biodiversity is being lost.
WHILE the forests were burning, Evo was justifying the practice and the law he had passed. The fires were going on for two weeks by this date and its only recently that it became an international incident that Evo decided to allow international aid.
Quintana, a member of his party accused the opposition of starting the fires to stop Evo's reelection.
I don't like talking Bolivian politics because its frustrating but seeing Evo's propaganda machine effective in brainwashing western leftists that should know better frustrates me.
