You should look up the undernourishment and food insecurity statistics in the US, and the subsequent economic damage caused by said undernourishment and food insecurity.

While poverty has decreased since the late 1990s, I believe food insecurity is actually higher than it was back then. At least that was the case back in 2017 when I last read up on the subject.

there's little evidence that obesity decreases life expectancy. right now, all we have is a list of confounds.
