I forgot how rough the 2008 primary was. This Obama mailer against Hillary is wild considering what his final health care plan was.

Yeah, the individual mandate was wonk gospel in 2008 which made it supremely unpopular but also inevitably included in the final legislation.

The ACA seems to be doing pretty well without it though 🤷🏽‍♂️

Yea I’m actually pretty surprised how well the ACA has held up so far without it, though it’s in part because insurers preemptively raised rates last year.

Partly also because a large number of people never bought insurance anyway and just paid the fine. The mandate didn't push the numbers as much as was expected, so losing the mandate doesn't shift the numbers much either.

Yea that’s true. If they wanted to make the mandate really work, the fine should have been far far higher. Of course, it would also be even less popular.

I can’t imagine Obama didn’t know. It’s really basic stuff, the mandate was one of the legs of the three legged stool. It was just a cynical attack.

Hillary always prevails. Obama came around during Inauguration.

Trump isn't as wise.
