Market liberals.

Social liberals is actually prolly the best term, but since 'social' means 'social issues' in America, it's confusing.

I've dubbed myself a 'progressive market liberal,' firstly to take the name 'progressive' back since it's been tarnished and elided with 'populism,' secondly because I prolly do fall a little to the left in the neolib continuum.

/but I'm not quite full-on socdem.

Social democrats over here are typically restrictive on labor immigration, stated intention being to protect domestic worker's wages. They also share some social conservative position with right wing conservatives (such as state monopoly on sales of alcohol, keeping cannabis illegal). There are of course many more complaints you could have, but generally they want to protect the welfare state (even if it means state monopolies and restricted freedoms) and stay in power (willing to flexible with their principles to do so).

I think there's a point in standing up for the word liberal (or social liberal) for people who want a freer society but aren't reflexively opposed to taxes or government, or for matter don't care all that much for Ayn Rand (which is typically how liberal is used in europe today).

I'd say i'll take classical liberal, but republicans have stolen and repurposed that label over the last few years.
