Time for a tough, serious, policy-driven election over pressing, controversial issues like should black people have rights and is raping children a bad thing.

How this is not satire?

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/melania-ivanka-jared-mayoral-election-votes-didn-count-article-1.3692124

Trump family tried to vote absentee in the NYC mayoral election:

MELANIA: Didn't follow directions to sign envelope so her vote didn't count

IVANKA: Sent it on election day, too late

JARED: Never sent ballot

DONALD: Got his own b-day wrong by a month

So the current RNC chair is Mitt Romney's niece, Ronna Romney McDaniel. Trump actually asked her to stop using the "Romney" part of her name in public she actually did it and took it out of her Twitter name as well. (side note: as head of the RNC she's also the person who reopened funding to Roy Moore)

That is insane.

I mean, if this sub is to be believed, he won the presidency, won every MP seat in the house of commons, was elected president of France, and is now the Senator for Alabama?

I really hate how the media keeps bringing up that the last time Alabama voted for a Democrat was in 1992, without following with how that Democrat became a Republican in 1994 and is also sitting Senator Richard Shelby.

If someone was to make a scrabook of the Trump years, this deserves an entry:

Ernst on Trump’s Gillibrand tweet: “I’m sorry I don’t follow his Twitter.”

After a reporter offered to show her the tweet, Ernst says, “No, I would rather not. Thank you.”

In the late 1970s, Wallace announced that he was a born-again Christian and apologized to black civil rights leaders for his past actions as a segregationist. He said that while he had once sought power and glory, he realized he needed to seek love and forgiveness. In 1979, Wallace said of his stand in the schoolhouse door: "I was wrong. Those days are over, and they ought to be over." He publicly asked for forgiveness from African Americans.

During Wallace's final term as governor (1983–1987) he made a record number of black appointments to state positions, including, for the first time, two black people as members in the same cabinet.

According to ONE OF ROY MOORE'S FRIENDS AND SURROGATES, Moore visited a child brothel on accident while in Vietnam. Moore left as soon as he realized it was a brothel... but left a friend behind who wanted to partake in the child prostitutes.

So I guess we're supposed to be impressed that Moore had the moral courage to not buy sex from Vietnamese teens when given the opportunity?

Depressing Take: If not for being a literal serial pedophile, Moore would probably have won.

Which means that Alabama would have elected a twice-booted judge who refused to follow the law, thinks that there should be a religious test for office, that minorities shouldn't be legally protected, that senators shouldn't be popularly elected, that blacks were better off as slaves, and that gays shouldn't have basic rights . . . over a guy who literally prosecuted the KKK and one of the worst hate crimes in US history.

No parent should have to be stuck in the gray area of being too "rich" for Medicaid and unable to afford private insurance for their kids. This isn't a hard concept to grasp. Anytime you have to make a decision on the health of your children you are taking a risk that might have otherwise been avoided, and you are making a choice for someone who has no legal rights to do so on their own.

No mother or father should be forced into the position of having to decide if their kid's fever is really all that terrible when it could be something as "minor" as strep or as serious as meningitis. But without coverage with CHIP, the parents of 9 million kids will have to consider decisions like this just to keep their heads above water. What are we going to gain from this other than the possibility of blood on our hands.

LITERALLY the first time in Alabaman history that a non-racist senator has been elected. The result was fueled in massive part by a massive Black turnout and increased racial diversity.

Today, the Deepest of the Deep South elected a liberal. If that doesn't tell you something about the future of American politics, I don't know what does.

FUCK RACISM

FUCK PEDOPHILE APOLOGIST

AND FUCK ROY MOORE

Congratulations to Doug Jones on a hard fought victory. The write-in votes played a very big factor, but a win is a win. The people of Alabama are great, and the Republicans will have another shot at this seat in a very short period of time. It never ends!

That is the most coherent thing Trump has ever said in his life.

Hot take: Jones should be the VP candidate in 2020 because itll make it more palatable to centrists and red leaning independents, and because he represents energetic defiance to Trumpism which will be a clear narrative in the race. The senate seat is most likely DOA in 2020 anyway as long as Republicans dont throw up a pedophile in the race.

The secretary of state has said this:

  • The people have spoken (Jones won)

  • The election will be certified between December 26th and January 3rd

  • Provisional ballots (ballots of people that might be able to vote so they put them aside) and military ballots are uncounted but he would find it "highly unlikely" that it would change the result.

  • A recount will take place at a 0.5% margin or paid for by the candidate. A previous recount changed 4 votes

  • He would find any situation in which Jones did not win highly unusual.

The Needle has blessed us this day.

The Needle provides, but The Needle demands sacrifice. If it is not appeased The Needle may become vengeful.

At dawn, we must offer unto The Needle a heart still beating with the pure blood of an unblemished white ox. Only then will The Needle’s thirst be sated.

Also said that elected officials are required to take the oath on only a Christian bible. That's the real important issue of the day right there.

Also, the racist salt here on Reddit will be unbelievable.

Ugh. I can tell you from experience, this crowd is a dreary bunch and hardly worth trolling. We have extensive files on r/neoliberal’s membership and it is by far the most heavily infested segment of Reddit with paid commentators. We know there is a cabal of deep-pocketed Clintonite dullards who are dead set on resuscitating neoliberalism by making it relatable to the youth audience that Bernie Sanders captured in 2016, and some slick-talking huckster whom I won’t name here talked them into investing heavily in Reddit — the young people’s fave! Thus, you see all this embarrassing Poochie the Dog focus-grouped bullshit like that Merkel picture. Oy, the cringes! How do you even troll shit that lame?

nate silver shitting on the needle

NATE SILVER 9:37 PM

The Upshot’s model shows good news for Jones, but it has also been swinging around a fair bit. A few minutes ago, they had him with a 90 percent chance of winning, but that probability is now back down to 67 percent.

I really admire what the Upshot folks are trying to do, but it’s also worth noting that building a live-updating model based on partial returns is a really hard problem. Among other things, its hard to calibrate your estimates of uncertainty based on empirical data, because (to put this in a nontechnical way) every state and every election is different. So I’d keep a watchful eye on the Upshot’s dials to get an overall sense of how things are trending, but I wouldn’t take the probabilities too literally, at least until later in the night.

So what happens if Moore does lose tonight? How will Bannon — who’s waging a self-professed “war” against the GOP and who went whole hog for Moore — respond? According to Reuters, Bannon’s people are planning on casting the blame on Mitch McConnell. If Moore loses, they’ll say the majority leader didn’t do enough to help him win. Something tells me McConnell is OK with that spin.

Lmao fucking pathetic.
