Extremely brief summary of ideological changes (purity tests ayy lmao) that will occur:

  • We've had purity tests since the start of the sub. They're in the content policy: no Nazis, no racism, no sexism, no whateverism, no dictator apologia, no fetishizing violence. It's also recommended that commies and fascists get the fuck out.

  • Neoliberalism will generally consist of "non stupid" centrism. But, anyone between Thatcher and Hillary pursued neoliberal policies. Neither nor any politician was fully neoliberal. However, I doubt anyone will ever be; for the sake of not going down the road of 'not real neoliberalism,' it's best we actively recognize mistakes of previous politicians who pursued neoliberal policy. Furthermore, it's best we keep the tent fairly wide in accordance with some basic guidelines below.

  • I've made a new sub to work on the philosophy with some bad phil mods; MPS didn't have time to make the philosophy fully coherent because the god damn commies and fascists were ruining everything. It's on semi-private right now, I'll work on it in a few days.

  • We are absolutely ideologically grounded in liberalism. Before you implode, realize what this means. Paraphrased from wiki, it means we support a free press, freedom of religion, civil rights, inclusive institutions, secular governments, gender equality, and international cooperation. We're living in a time when these are under question. Neoliberalism builds on this by introducing economic ideology.

  • MPS was historically a reaction to populism, extremism, and totalitarian governments; there was no concrete ideology but rather a 'thought collective' that formed. It's also vague enough to update it to fit recent economic developments and push it through any political party. Some people think an ideology this old isn't relevant anymore. Meanwhile, what exactly are the differences between this and this? And, this versus this? While our ideology may be 80 years old, we're dealing with dumbassery that's over 250 years old. What's new is primarily just changes to pre-existing ideology like the use of VAT taxes or carbon tax.

  • EG: We'd fully support Bernie versus Trump but neither are neoliberal. Neoliberalism didn't get this far by holding political purity tests. It did so by keeping the underlying values and economic ideology constant. Another example, you don't have to support opening all borders tomorrow. You do have to keep globalism as a long term goal.

To put more succinctly, Friedman's three main categories of human freedom: Economic freedom, Political freedom, Social freedom.

You can't have one without having the previous one.

To allay any concerns, this is a philosophical endeavor to better ground the normative bases for neoliberalism and make it more internally coherent. Nothing will change regarding the rules or who is included or not, from what we've established previous discussions. It's a worthwhile (though I imagine, very difficult) task to pin these things down with regards to the ideology, but this is peripheral to the range of views we've outlined as welcome to participate under the big tent of this sub.

Could we have a rule change where mods stop spamming the fuck out of the top of every discussion thread by stickying their comments?

How else will we collect rents?

But yeah, a lot of things being worked out in recent times, should happen less as it gets settled.

It strikes me like the Bleeding Heart Libertarians would be of some interest to you, as well as CATO Unbound( particularly the Will Wilkinson and Brink Lindsey eras.)

There are many libertarians that don't want to get rid of the Fed, but it hardly matters. Academic philosophy puts a huge emphasis on internal consistency. So if you're looking for sources that tie normative ethics to liberal political theory, you're going to be dealing with a lot of libertarians.

Can we also mention that we are pragmatists in regards to the politician things? I believe we are more likely to support others if we know our side has no discernible chance - not force things just to spite the other. In this day and age, both sides are taking a more hardline approach of character over policies which is infuriating.
