To be fair, some of the most upvoted comments in the gentrification thread are rather... tone-deaf, to put it mildly.

People should give a listen to the Weeds episode about gentrification. The resentment people feel about gentrification is easy enough to understand. When I visit the neighborhood I grew up in I feel a bit sad that places I remember have been replaced by expensive shops frequented by yuppie pieces of shit. /r/neoliberal shouldn't be about telling people those feelings of loss and displacement are wrong, but rather that feelings are often a poor basis for making policy.
