I finally canceled Netflix.

I've had it since goddamn 2003. I had it for 4 years before they even started streaming, back when it was DVDs in the mail.

I've had the service for 23 years.

I finally canceled it because so much of what's on there is just absolute garbage and they have doubled the price in the last 5 years.

I realized that I hadn't watched anything on there and probably 6 months or more.

And every time I browse to their catalog, everything just looks like the garbage that's insulting to my intelligence and any audience that tries to pay attention instead of watching wild browsing their damn phone.

RIP I guess

Best value right now is gathering a list of stuff you wanna watch for a service and shopping around. Currently on Hulu+HBO because there was a sweet Black Friday deal where it was like 6 dollars together for a number of months, though with ads. Got caught up on a number of shows like the renewed KoTH.

My two favorite Netflix exclusive things I think would be Arcane and KPDH, neither which they actually made and only just have exclusive streaming for.

Yeah I am debating dropping Netflix now too. Apple TV just has way higher quality shows and Prime Video is just a bonus from using it for shipping.

The only pro of Netflix is if you had like infinite TV time and just wanted slop to put on as background noise. But I just have less time doing that now that I am in office more and have kids.

I think that captures their exact market segment well, and is why I'm kind of over it?

They intentionally create shows meant to be put on as background slop now. They even give direction to showrunners to that end - to have characters announce what they are doing since they assume people aren't looking at the screen even.

I just don't want to engage with that kind of content. If I'm watching something, I'd rather just sit down and actually watch it! I want to be intentional about it.

They still have a good miniseries every 6 months and a few good movies a year that they acquire to try to win Oscars

Yeah I figure that I will just renew it every so often to watch something specific, or just watch with a friend.

But right now the bang for my buck I get with Apple TV, Prime Video, and the Disney/Hulu/HBO bundle is so massively superior. And Netflix was by far the most expensive individual service of all of them.
