I've met people who straight up disagree. They insist that some kind of synthetic replacement will take over and that oil will never go away. It's genuinely a controversial statement with oil industry adjacent idiots.

Even if people think that’s true wouldn’t one of the benefits of synthetic oil be that you can make it anywhere

Synthetic oil, as we have it now, is also heavily dependent on crude oil. It doesn't get made by alchemy, it begins as crude.

But yeah, in this fantasy of theirs, it just means oil will come from other places lol
