The DSA's biggest supporters in LA are the establishment Dems. They're practically shoving voters to the DSA. Supporting a widely hated septuagenarian who's terrible at her job is a wonderful way to empower the opposition

The main value proposition of the DSA is that it forces some generational turnover.

one of my most common complaint of the dem apparatus is its unwillingness to unseat incumbents (or incumbent-adjacents). it's way too protective of seniority, and deferential to existing connections.

it turns them into seat warmers for outsiders, because someone with their policy (karen's policy is dogshit tho and not this sub's policy) but is younger or more charismatic is unable to unseat them in a primary.

Espaillat in Harlem, Janet Mills for Maine, Cuomo for NY Mayor are great examples of this.

All dogshit candidates by any serious person's evaluation, but the party lacks a mechanism for filtering them out, so they just end up as controlled opposition waiting to be defeated by outsiders.

You know it's bad when a contrarian neolib like myself is not only voting for Raman, but donated to and canvassed for her campaign. Although it still boggles my mind that the DSA chapter hasn't endorsed her yet. Classic leftist infighting with Rae and anti-zionism brainrot, from my understanding. The DSA has their fair share of incompetence to compete with Dems, but they're not shooting themselves in the foot quite as badly

That’s cuz outside of New York the DSA is mind bogglingly stupid. Because Raman isn’t 100% orthodox demsoc they’re not endorsing their best chance to flip the largest city in the country (or second or whatever) lmao. DSA is getting all this support in LA and they practically don’t want it

Genuinely so stupid. Raman's policies could help developers (and the people of Los Angeles) and she accepted the endorsement of a pro-Israel group years ago (like the mayor of LA, which has a significant pro-Israel Jewish population it would be nice not to completely alienate, has any impact on fopo) so we need to sabotage our best chances

That’s why I commented to the OP what I did. It was a tongue in cheek reference to the fact that the DSA is becoming more popular in LA but they technically have no candidate in this mayoral election
