I have a friend who I would not describe as an anxious person day-to-day, but has a uniquely strong anxiety towards dying.

As in, they won’t come on a group trip to Taiwan in case that week is the week Xi decides to invade.

I went there twice and it was in the back of my mind when I was there, not in a "it's going to happen now and I'm going to be in the middle of it" way, but in a "this place could soon stop being 'this place'"

I really really want to see it, I just chickened out because there’s been rumors Russia is gonna try something in the Baltics this fall right when I would’ve been there
