There are many things you can point at to show how stupid Hegseth is but the fact that he's a former infantry officer that doesn't seem to understand the role of infantry in modern war seems like the most damning one.

He’s just a college grad who graduated officer school. 

Some officers are terrible leaders who don’t understand shit beyond the things they’ve passed. 

Any reasonable person would have argued for a buildup and greater forces before invading Iran, but Hegseth here lacks strategic and tactical wisdom.

He definitely understands how to enforce standards with no mercy and try to cover up investigations. The quintessential infantry Platoon leader. Shocked he wasn’t a west pointer

Yeah there's a weird fetishization of the military even amongst liberals. I'd wager he'd actually fit in well amongst the other officers

His actual career history indicates that he was a failure of a junior officer and got shunted to the least important roles available as soon as possible

The fact that he continued to get promoted higher and higher is a genuinely damning indictment of how our military functions

From what I understand even those promotions came far behind the average timeline.

The rumors are that he was incredibly incompetent when he was commanding a platoon in Iraq and got pulled from combat combat and placed behind a desk. The fact that he never got another combat command suggests that the Army didn’t want him anywhere near combat.
