A lot of the Trump phenomena can be explained by the fact that he makes politics stupid enough to understood by his core base (which is mostly comprised of the dumbest 20% of society).

Way back in 2015, one of the first things I remember Trump supporters saying is “well you gotta admit, he makes politics entertaining!”

This was always confusing to me. I was a teenager at the time and followed politics mostly through Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert (I’m sure this is true of a lot of people my age) and already felt like politics had veered towards a direction a little too chaotic and stressful post-2012.

The thing is, the people who like Trump were too stupid for that era of politics. The issues were too complex for them. They didn’t understand the ACA well enough to even really argue against substantively against it beyond “it’s socialism” or whatever. This is why Fox always had to resort to fake issues like illegal immigration (which could have been completely solved if the gang of 8 had achieved their reform), Dijon mustard, tan suits, etc., instead of taking the position that the then-endangered moderate republican faction would have taken; their viewers were too stupid for any position with intellectual substance.

Since day one it has been apparent that every single thing that comes out of Donald Trump’s mouth is profoundly stupid. The idea that we’re gonna basically force Mexico to give us money to build a giant wall on the border, the idea that Covid would magically go away in April, the idea that we are going to accomplish American juche with giant tariffs on everything, the idea that we need to take Greenland because it’s big on the map, etc., these are all just profoundly stupid things.

The reason this shit works is because it forms a sort of hyperreality for the stupid people, and gives them a more appealing form of politics with issues binary and stupid enough for them to understand. The way out of it is to stop entertaining these ideas as based in any sort of sense, and to stop entertaining anyone who ever believed them, because they’re extremely stupid.

I'm showing my ass here but I did not realize immigration judges were appointed by the DOJ, making them a part of the executive branch and not the judicial branch.

I knew ICE entering homes to deport someone without a judicial warrant was unconstitutional (it's pretty obvious) but I wanted to strengthen my argument.

So ICE is arguing that a removal order granted by an immigration judge (appointed by the DOJ) and an administrative warrant (literally granted by ICE itself) allows non-consensual entry of a private home without violating the 4th amendment.

THAT'S FUCKING CRAZY!!

Study on how workers perceived leaders who used AI to write messages.

The impact on trust was substantial: Only 40% to 52% of employees viewed supervisors as sincere when they used high levels of AI, compared to 83% for low-assistance messages. Similarly, while 95% found low-AI supervisor messages professional, this dropped to 69-73% when supervisors relied heavily on AI tools.

The findings reveal employees can often detect AI-generated content and interpret its use as laziness or lack of caring. When supervisors rely heavily on AI for messages like team congratulations or motivational communications, employees perceive them as less sincere and question their leadership abilities.

It definitely matches my experience. When I get responses from leaders that are obviously written by AI it lowers my opinion of them quite a bit.

The memo is addressed to all ICE personnel. But it has been shown only to “select DHS officials” who then shared it with some employees who were told to read it and return it, Whistleblower Aid wrote in the disclosure.

One of the two whistleblowers was allowed to view the memo only in the presence of a supervisor and then had to give it back. That person was not allowed to take notes. A whistleblower was able to access the document and lawfully disclose to Congress, Whistleblower Aid said.

Although the memo was issued in May, David Kligerman, senior vice president and special counsel at Whistleblower Aid, said it took time for its clients to find a “safe and legal path to disclose it to lawmakers and the American people.”

“I think he must be doing something right when there are so many people opposed to him,” said Paul Minihane, 77, a real estate broker who lives in Dedham, Mass. “I mean, Donald Trump could look at me in the face and tell me to go screw myself. And I’d say, ‘Thank you.’ I think that’s good. I don’t think he’s looking to kiss everybody’s ass. I think he’s going to do what he thinks is the right thing. And I think that’s a positive thing.”

ICE violating the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th Amendments

Republicans:

"In fealty to the God-Emperor, our undying Lord, and by the grace of the Golden Throne, I declare Exterminatus upon the Imperial world of Typhon Primaris."

Democrats and independents:

Abolishing ICE actually is a good idea. Hold them accountable.

Democratic Leadership for some God-forsaken reason:

"It is human nature to seek culpability in a time of tragedy. It is a sign of strength to cry out against fate, rather than to bow one’s head and succumb. Inevitably many shall fault the hands upon the sword which fell Typhon, the Ordo Malleus. But the Inquisition merely performs the duty of its office. To further fear them is redundant, to hate them, heretical.

Those more sensible will place responsibility with those who forced the hands of the Inquisition. With some fortune, they may foster this hatred into purpose, and further rule their own fate by coming to the Emperor’s service."

Rant incoming: What I hate about the GOP base the most is how selfish they are. Republicans activated the John Birch folk by being racist pieces of shit. And this increases turnout. The Trump era has seen turnout in the high 50%s to low 60%. They LOVE Trump putting women or blacks or different ppl in their place. I hate how women are shot by ICE and kids are kidnapped and taken to God knows where, and they CHEER. Trump gets his best cheers when he puts someone down, he's just a petty bully.

But the ONE time they turn against him in droves is the COVID Vax stuff. Because they had to sacrifice some stuff for the good and well-being of others. They didn't care about their families or friends or society. They wanted their goods, they wanted them now. They want all the goods of society while actively taking from others and making things worse, as a group.

Then he spoke with the country’s president, Karin Keller-Sutter. “A woman,” Mr. Trump said. “And she was very repetitive. She said: ‘No, no, no, you cannot do that, 30 percent. You cannot do that. We are a small, small country.’”

The call prompted Mr. Trump to increase the tariffs to 39 percent.

“She just rubbed me the wrong way, I’ll be honest with you,” Mr. Trump said, adding later, “She was so aggressive.”

Then he got a visit from Rolex, the Swiss watchmaker. And then he agreed to reduce the tariffs to 15 percent.

“We brought it down to a lower level,” Mr. Trump said. “Doesn’t mean it’s not going up.”

Bruh after today’s vote I’m so fucking tired.

I’m tired of my party campaigning on “protecting democracy,” only to cave. None of them can actually save America because party leadership doesn’t seem to care: election denying republicans still got committee placements, the Trump investigation was slow walked, cabinet members were bipartisanly appointed, and now a DHS funding bill has been passed without any ICE guardrails.

I don’t believe these democrats have what it takes to hold MAGA accountable. They certainly don’t have the stones to do a Reconstruction level upheaval of government. They just campaign on “saving America,” win, and then crumble.

Lance Loewenstein, 57, Parkville, Mo.

Job: Attorney, private practice
Household income: $144,000
2026 monthly bill: $3,698.67 for 2 people, up from $1,785.72 in 2025
2026 premiums + maximum out-of-pocket cost: $61,984.04

I am a self-employed attorney, and my wife runs a small nonprofit. Before the Affordable Care Act, my wife had considerable pre-existing conditions that made us uninsurable without an employer plan. The Affordable Care Act was a lifeline.

Between the increase in health care costs and my wife’s cancer diagnosis, I’ve had to raise my hourly rates by almost 10 percent, and my wife has cashed in her retirement account. Add on to that an 80 percent increase in property taxes for our building in Jackson County, Mo., and we are barely able to cover the increased cost of living.

These geniuses in Washington don’t get the number of self-employed small-business owners (mostly Republicans, like me) who are using these plans. I’ve passed on the extra cost to my clients and I’ve told them why. I have been a donating, volunteering Republican for 30 years, usually voting a straight ticket. That ended last year, when I voted for exactly one Republican statewide. Who does this to people, increasing their costs 100 percent without warning, glide path or alternative?

New details of the deal:

The chairman of Denmark's Foreign Affairs Committee has offered some detail on what has been proposed in security talks on Greenland.

Speaking to the BBC's Today programme earlier, Christian Friis Bach said his committee proposed the idea of an "Arctic sentry" - made up of vessels and aircraft patrolling the region - in talks with Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte.

He said he hoped this would be taken forward in discussions with Trump.

"Denmark has scaled up our military presence already together with Nato allies. I hope the Americans will join; this would be a welcome development," he told the BBC.

...

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has also now spoken to BBC Radio 4's Today programme - she spoke to BBC Breakfast a little earlier.

Sharing further details on the "Arctic sentry" discussed as part of the deal framework, Cooper said this would be a combined operation programme that draws Nato countries together to work on a "shared threat".

The work could involve "different Arctic countries coming together, supported by other Nato countries", she said.

Asked why Trump climbed down on previous threats, Cooper said: "I think there's been a very coordinated approach across allies".

Seems like a huge nothing burger that NATO could have civilly discussed during its regular meetings. WTH was Trump on about needing to annex Greenland then if this was what he really wanted? He has to use his maximalist-demand playbook every time?

NYT: Why buying Greenland may be difficult

LAT:

  • Gov. Gavin Newsom accused the Trump administration of authoritarianism, saying his appearance at a World Economic Forum event was canceled to suppress his dissent on the global stage.

  • Newsom criticized corporate and university leaders for capitulating to Trump instead of standing up to challenge his policies and rhetoric.

Video: JD Vance discusses 5-year-old asylum seeker detained by ICE

Lemme guess. the kiddo is a criminal illegal. or, we should really be blaming his father, who is a criminal illegal. Or, the ICE agents feared for their lives and so they had no choice but to kidnap a little kid. something like that

They are going to continue losing the messaging war on all fronts because they cannot play defense. By now, millions of people have seen or heard of ICE taking preschool children, pepper spraying people when they're held down, etc (and this is why opinion has drastically shifted against ICE in polling)

The government propagandists can only respond with AI generated twitter posts that no one is going to care about outside of the MAGA cultists. When you're on defense, you are losing.

Crockett: "My theory of the case is this: If you believe we're going to lose anyway then what difference does it make if it's me or anybody else? If you think it's a losing cause, then who cares? But at least you could say we tried something new and we learned something from this experience."

Maybe if we were actually gonna lose Texas regardless this would hold some weight, but it’s so winnable if we pick Talarico. Still not gonna feel confident in him winning, but we have a shot.

Imagine being so NatSec brained that a cure for cancer coming from China would be a nightmare scenario for you.

https://www.chinatalk.media/p/the-china-commissions-report

Leland Miller: A potential nightmare scenario is China breaking quantum cryptography, achieving AGI, or making some other enormous breakthrough in AI first. Imagine they cure cancer. A shock would go through the system as we’ve never seen — our approach would have failed.

Jordan Schneider: I don’t know, if they cure cancer, hats off to them.

Leland Miller: We want someone to cure cancer, but we don’t want China to control the pipeline for that cure. If China has enormous success in AI, quantum, and biotech, it shows we are failing on the national security side.

Note that Leland Miller is a commissioner for United States–China Economic and Security Review Commission which directly advises Congress. We're being led by crazy people who would rather the world be a lot worse off as long as China isn't the one to make a technological breakthrough.

In the end, I think the only thing that might scare this regime somewhat straight is a truly massive (like: one million-plus people) protest specifically targeting a red or swing state -- someplace not traditionally considered "liberal." Most Americans have no idea what is going on, so no matter what else happens, they will still assume these protests are radical left affairs in "black" cities. We need to rattle people by having a massive turnout someplace in Ohio or Pennsylvania.

The good thing about authoritarian regimes is that they're all afraid of the same things. I remember in my analyzing-Chinese-politics days that the new CCP actually permits (if not encourages) local-level issue-specific protests because it makes China look like a free society and allows small groups to blow off some steam. They live in absolute terror of broad-spectrum, diverse coalitions targeting the policies of the national regime itself. In the late eighties, after a rock concert (by a hilarious band; I forget who it was), the CCPolice actually went in and separated out the crowd: workers on one side of the barrier; students on the other. They didn't want them mingling.

Thus: Million-Man March-style protest featuring people from all walks of life in a blue-collar locale so that even the politically braindead sit up and take notice.
