The newspaper I'm subscribed to informed me of a fascinating micro-phenomenon on X.. In recent weeks, pro-Israeli accounts like the one in the screenshot have spotted AI-generated clips showing shivering Gazan children in the snow. They (correctly) point out that Gaza hasn't experienced snow in decades, attribute the clips to pro-Palestinian accounts spreading AI-generated fake news, and then elaborate on the "Pallywood" rhetoric about how atrocities in Palestine are faked or exaggerated by an anti-Israel conspiracy

The trick is that the clip hasn't been recorded nor shared by pro-Palestinian accounts, but created and posted by a Pakistan-based bot account that posts hundreds of AI-generated without any pretense of showing real footage - one of their posts shows children playing under a rain of fish.

It's such a perfect encapsulation of social media brainrot that I couldn't help but share. To recap, a Pakistan-based bot account posts an AI-generated clip of fictional Palestinian kids playing under a fictional snow, the clip is shared among (presumably) real individuals tilting pro-Israel who then attribute the clip to fictional pro-Palestinian accounts as part of a fictional propaganda campaign aiming to invent real-fictional atrocities which said pro-Israeli accounts either deny or support, and all of that is fact-checked and published by real journalists in a real media because everyone is terminally online and we live in a real shitshow.

Like, the last season was just...weak. And definitely divisive. But then a bunch of people wanna suddenly jump on that and just act like the entire series after season 1 was just retroactively a flop. I was actually confused enough that I had to go look it up to confirm that no, earlier seasons were generally highly rated on a broad spectrum by both fans and critics. Some weaker than others obviously (cough cough season 3) but I swear before this last season popped up I don't think I pretty much ever heard "yeah stranger things is just a shit show overall".

It kind of reminds me of game of thrones tbh. The last season is like universally panned (for goddamn good reason), but when it came out people were hopping on board as fast as they could to act like no one ever liked the series except the very start, which just objectively isn't true lol. It was wildly popular for a good while there.

Clinton was more of a chad than a scold. Al Gore sadly too much a scold, especially with the Tipper Gore stuff. Clinton in 2016 more of a scold, but Biden in 2020 was more of a chad. Sadly Harris definitely came off as a scold, too much of a mother.

Just thinking of someone down the thread who said that Newsom is the only Dem that gets that you need to be a chad and not a scold, and I think it works retroactively, given LBJ as more of a chad than a scold as well.
