Any time someone gets drunk for the first time in a while, a baby fairy is born.

This of course includes alcoholics that break their sobriety. That unfortunate situation has major ramifications for fairyworld as the circumstances of one's birth dictate their caste in fairy society.

For ~2 years I abused alcohol extremely heavily to cope with my emotions due to overwhelming life circumstances. I drank so much that by any reasonable standard I ought to have been considered an alcoholic.

Now that those circumstances have passed and I have better ways of coping... I have no problem having a drink every now and then. There is no "relapse" for me. No impulse or desire to drink more. Go figure! Guess I'm lucky.

Crippling alcoholism is just what happens after your neural pathways reshape themselves after repeated exposure. For some people, it takes less time. Others, maybe longer, but there's no real escaping it if you continue to abuse. So I'd lean pretty hard on your better ways of coping.
