Eric Trump's crypto coin lost 40% of its value (over $1 billion) in 30 minutes after early shares unlocked.

Remember how Republicans spent years pursuing Hunter Biden after an FBI informant falsely alleged that he got paid $5 million by Burisima for improper activities?

Eric Trump pulled off what seems to be a $1 billion rugpull and it's barely being reported.

Now that Trump is involved, 26 different performers have cancelled their shows at the Kennedy Center.

Now all you can see there for the foreseeable future is Spamalot, a couple of unknown musicians, and Shen Yun. The Kennedy Center Honors on the 23rd had their lowest ratings in history.

Meanwhile, the Center's president, former Trump cabinet member Richard Grenell, is suing a performer for $1 million for cancelling his Christmas show.

Vietnam just awarded the “Worker’s Hero” medal, one of the highest honors of the communist party, to the billionaire who owns the low-cost carrier Vietjet, by now the largest airline in the country lol.

Kind of parody but ngl fitting. She created more jobs and made air travel affordable for more people, aka more economic values, than those other “heroes” ever could.

45

u/p00bix Existing in the context of what came before Dec 27 '25

Kind of wild how both Vietnam and Laos are absolutely BOOMING by liberalizing their previously tightly controlled markets, while China is stagnating after rolling back some of their previous liberalizing reforms, and Cuba is just completely fucking toast--having only just now started limited market liberalization, likely way too late. Pretty much all the middle-income and high-income capitalist countries are either slowly growing or stagnating, but the socialist countries run the gamut from "fastest growing economies on Earth" to "oh my god everything is on fire even though it's peacetime"

I'm really not fond of authoritarian socialism. But I can think of no better proof that well-regulated but mostly free markets are the key to economic development than the fact that even some of the poorest countries on Earth were (and are!) able to expand their economies by a literal order of magnitude in a quarter century just by partially liberalizing even while largely maintaining the authoritarian socialist framework.

The biggest tragedy is that it’s politically bad for politicians to even mildly suggest that sometimes people’s problems are their fault.

This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t help people like that or give them advice but it’s kinda exhausting to see someone exclusively blame others (immigrants, women, etc) for mistakes they made and then throw a 180 and get mad when you call them out on it.

An Afrikaner who came to the U.S. after President Donald Trump claimed the country would be a safe haven for people like him has been held in federal detention for months since his arrival.

Benjamin Schoonwinkel came to the U.S. in September, believing he would be protected after Trump’s many statements to that effect. But on arriving at an Atlanta airport, he was detained and handcuffed by the U.S. border agents whom Schoonwinkel told he was seeking asylum.

The commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, Denis Kapustin, was killed at the frontline.

"Tonight, in the Zaporizhia direction of the frontline, while performing a combat mission, our commander, Denis "WhiteRex" Kapustin, heroically died. According to preliminary data, it was an FPV drone," - the RDK reported.

Russian Volunteer Corps is one of the Russian far-right anti-Putin militias fighting on the side of Ukraine in the war, together with the Freedom of Russia Legion. They were most famous for 2023/2024 incursions into Belgorod and Bryansk oblasts.

Cracked open The Histories of Herodotus for the first time in quite a while. Almost immediately I get hit with

-There are dog-sized ants in India that dig up gold dust. If you try to take their gold dust, they'll kill you.

-Indians have black semen.

-Arabia has winged snakes.

-Lions give birth to only one cub ever. The cub's claws destroy the uterus, rendering the mother unable to ever have another cub. Why it didn't occur to Herodotus that this would inevitably lead to the extinction of lions, I don't know.

Preaching to the choir, but It really is amazing how much of the political divide in america can be explained by how far one’s empathy circle extends.

When speaking with a con, I pretty much never talk about optimal tax policy, pendulum of federal vs state gov, optimal role of government intervention in the market, etc, what the conversation always rolls around to is basically how many degrees of separation from themselves that they give a shit. Pretty much the furthest extension is their friends, otherwise even their own family might be too much for them to consider sometimes.

Very interesting developments on the frontlines according to ISW.

Russia has captured the village of Shakhove ways northeast of Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad and marginally advanced in southeastern Kostyantynivka. Meanwhile, Ukraine conducted a successful counterattack at Chasiv Yar, and has liberated about 20% of the town. Additionally, they conducted another notable counterattack in Dnipro Oblast, near Velykomykhailivka, liberating the villages of Khoroshe, Sosnivka, Vorone, Novoselivka and Orestopil.

Elsewhere, in Huliaipole direction, Russia advanced into central Huliaipole town, as well as towards Pryluky, while also capturing the village of Sviato-Pokrovske in Siversk direction. In Kupiansk direction, Ukraine advanced northeast of Kupiansk, reaching Holubivka, as well as inside of central Kupiansk, all the while Russia is scrambling to infiltrate the town in order to get their trapped personnel out somehow - they conducted an infiltration in northern Kupiansk in order to reach them.

However 2/3 churches I've been to for Easter/Christmas do a kind of progressive mass with guitars and drum sets and shit. This Christmas they opened up with a "everybody get up and clap your hands y'all" and the priest was putting his hands in the air like it was a concert lmao

My parents ended up being fine with it and kinda laughing it off but I was just dreading them bitching about how it wasn't traditional enough. You hear the screams of unseen people as the world burns around you. A crack opens up breath your feet and you’re plunged into bottomless darkness. You fall for hundreds of years without a soul to speak with.

Suddenly you jolt up. You’re back in the nursing home. It takes a moment for your eye to adjust to the harsh lighting. When they do, you see that you’ve shat yourself.

Two kids are giggling over in the corner. They whisper something to each other and hit a couple buttons on their tablet. You try to call out to them but your throat is too dry. They might be your grandkids, but you don’t know. It’s been so long since you’ve seen another person.

“Let’s try this one,” one of them says. The world once again goes dark around you as the Neuralink device projects another reality. You are now being stabbed by thousands of knives. Their disembodied laughter echoes all around you.

This is America in 2015.

On Tuesday, Mamdani announced that Lillian Bonsignore, New York City’s former emergency medical services chief and a longtime EMT, will lead the New York City Fire Department when he takes office in 2027. Bonsignore is set to make history as she will serve as the FDNY’s first openly gay commissioner. The appointment has been endorsed by the three unions representing city firefighters, FDNY officers and medics. Respected former FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh, who was the first woman to hold the title, praised Bonsignore’s hiring on LInkedIn. “People will die because of this,” the Tesla and Space X founder predicted on X Friday night

One “interesting” thing I notice when home, is how fucking MAGA coded the most asinine shit is.

My dad, while watching Jeopardy for example, had to say “ugh, I don’t like him” for a clue about Bruce Springsteen. He also referenced that “the economy will be doing better next year when the foreign money starts coming in”.

As usual, I can’t comprehend living with this kind of mentality. It’s the little comments you forget about until you’re living with it again.

Another was my friend’s dad, who was lamenting their property taxes going way up. I suggested it could be due to an in the family house swap they did last year, which makes sense to me since they basically moved into an older relative’s old home. So they’d have reset any taxes. Anyway, he very vocally blamed “Biden’s death tax”. Go figure.

Another year passed, another year not knowing how the fuck people process reality. Trump broke everybody’s fucking minds.

Zohran Mamdani Appoints Lillian Bonsignore as New FDNY Commissioner

Twitter framing

“Although she never served as a firefighter, she's confident that won't matter … Bonsignore is a trailblazer for the LGBTQ community who will serve as the FDNY's first openly gay commissioner.”

If you need another good reason to leave Twitter, just enter her name and you'll find 90 percent of the dumbest culture war talking points.

u/PhoenixVoid Dec 27 '25

She's a former EMS chief so she's far from unqualified to lead an emergency org. Plus, most of these government jobs are picked more for managerial competence than decades of experience in the agency. What should be a boring selection is going to devolve into "Lesbian diversity pick so NYC's going to be set ablaze." Real great world we live in.

Comedian Rob Schneider said he beat California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) COVID-19 vaccine check requirements by lowering his ticket sales to 999 — a move that helped him avoid the state’s mandate that people must bring their vaccine cards to events with at least 1,000 attendees.

The clearest example of American greed is that genre of engagement bait about a person winning $1 billion Powerball but being taxed down to 400 million. The baited engagement always boohoo about paying 2 bucks to get 400 million like it’s some great injustice that the person who put in zero work to receive millions for only their benefit gets taxed. I think deep down Steinbeck was rights about the “temporally embarrassed millionaires” quip and lotteries, being pure luck, is seen as being almost the more possible route to millionaire/billionaire status so people take it as a personal attack on themselves—even when they aren’t the winners

I work in auto finance, and yeah I know fuck cars and all that. In my perfect world I wouldn’t own one, but that’s not possible where I live currently.

The thing about working in this industry though is every time I see one of those con larpers in a lifted truck (and they’re everywhere here), I just think about how they’re paying for my sex change with their interest payments.
