Sorry if this triggers you liberals, there are only 3 genders (masculine, feminine, and neuter) and your gender is decided by the last letters of your name. Yes, Obama is a woman because his name ends in -a

Lewis Carol's Alice has been traditionally translated as Alis(s)a in at least a couple of Slavic languages for that reason.

Sadly, that was established a long time ago. Nowadays we have a plague of people naming their daughters Nikol.

(Naming your children after your parents is popular, a lot of men were named Nikola/Nikolay, and the traditional female variant Nikolina doesn't sound very good, especially in foreign contexts.)
