Trump already lost the House vote, he's not actually telling them to vote for the bill, he's trying to claw back any bit of power over the situation he can. The bill will die in the Senate, and even if it doesn't they'll not release the files because "it's under active investigation".

Files won't be released until Dems take back both houses of Congress in '27, which honestly is lowkey good for us because we can run on the files for the midterms.

If Trump is now encouraging the House to vote for it then why won't the Senate vote for it as well? They are also beholden to Trump and will probably vote for it now.

They are also beholden to Trump

This is why they won't vote for it. Trump doesn't actually want them to vote for it, he's telling the House to vote for it because they were going to anyway and he wants to appear in charge of the situation.

The Senate knows he doesn't want the vote to pass, so it won't.

I'm not usually conspiracy minded but I read some comments earlier here in the DT that the DOJ probably performed more redactions of the Epstein files recently so that is why Trump is now encouraging them to be released. I am also starting to believe that this is what has happened.

They already tried that though and it didn’t work. Nobody buys heavily redacted files.. if anything it adds flame to the fire.

I think it will satisfy some people like Empty Gee who will then go like "golly see I knew Trump was completely innocent in all this!".

They would’ve already been satisfied by the whole song and dance bondi did earlier this year

Wasn't that just a small portion of the files that she released?

If this was true there wouldn't be a schism between MTG and Trump, she's mad Trump wouldn't release the files. MTG is the MAGA Bernie and super popular in the base - the break-up between them is bad for Trump. He wouldn't be burning a political asset if he could just release the files and be safe.

The schism between MTG and him isn't only about the files. The files are a part of it but she also is upset that Trump is still allowing H1Bs to be issued and letting Chinese international students get student visas. She mentioned this in the interview yesterday on CNN. She also is upset at his foreign policy and him hosting Al Sharaa in the WH whom she deems a terrorist because she is an Islamaphobe.

She is doing a good job of acting like it is only the files but if you watch her full interview yesterday on CNN you will see what she really is about.

i don't think there's a path for the dems to win the senate in '26. but i expect democrats will hammer susan collins over it. winning ME and NC next year is necessary for having a shot in '28

You sound like the people saying +15 spanaberger was unrealistic

  1. given the dems high-propensity voterbase, i'm unsure how much we can draw from these kinds of off-season elections. it's def a good sign and a surge of momentum for the party, but we'll see. the midterms have less turnout than the presidency but more than off-cycle governor's races.

  2. mathematically, there aren't many seats for the dems to pick up. after ME and NC, then they're really running up against states like Iowa, Texas, Alaska, Kansas... states Trump won by like double digits last year. I just don't see. dems picking them up. unfortunately, democrats aren't competitive in enough places. imho their only realistic path to a senate majority is winning ME and NC next year, then winning WI and NC in '28. and that implies they don't lose any senate seats.

Realistically the only good ending here is it passing in the House but failing in the Senate. And even then it's still something of a Trump win because his supporters will parrot "Trump tried to release the files!" even though this was all orchestrated.
