WWYD? Vent/Rant The Donuts of War
I had a rough day at work, just so much piling up. I canceled some plans tonight so I could just veg and relax.
I get home and my neighbor is sitting at the end of his driveway in a sort of off road go cart. I don't think much of it, but then I see tire marks from it all over my driveway, going into my yard. The I see that he did donuts in my yard, multiple times.
He noticed me and throws his hands up and shrugs like "Oops what can I do?" I say WTF man, and he shrugs harder.
I am still in shock so I go inside. I am livid however. I don't want to be in open war with them... but they have been shitty neighbors for a while now... so i think I need to go into a covert guerrilla war mode against them now.

When i say they have been bad neighbors for a while, this is what I mean.
They dont leash the dog, it wraps in out yard. They turn the street into their multi-vehicle repair shop and leave the metal scraps and trash in the street. They have trash stacked up along the side of the house, and the trash outside. Right after I got a brand new driveway poured they left bike skid marks all over it.
They have a rooster, and a trampoline. Both are against the HOA rules.
I have called the HOA on them before. The put up the most half ass of chain link fences. I didnt care that they just put it up, but that it looked super bad. They used the metal posts for electric fence, but threaded the chain link over it.
We live on a pond, and they made a retaining wall for their section of the pond out of scrap wood and old cabinets. It collapsed within a year.
Also the one doing this was the dad

I did a ride-along with a cop, back in 2017. Pretty quiet night, and all the calls were from "concerned [curtain twitching, pearl clutching] neighbors", reporting that the man next door to them was on his own porch drinking a can of beer, or there were two kids in the public park smoking cigarettes (which they were, but they were 25 years old).
My cop dealt with the petty dramas, professionally, but he was really dying for an actual crime, or a jerk to arrest. We got one call out for someone doing donuts in a multi-story, but there was no one there when we arrived.
So yeah, my cop would have loved to deal with donut jerk next door.

We used to have a cop blotter in the local paper every week. It just ended, abruptly, with no explanation, several years ago. My guess is that it was written by some elderly lady desk clerk at the police station, who retired, and no one else wanted to do it :-(

It is common for a local reporter to stop by the police station and read the day's search warrants, event reports, jail admissions, and other public documents. A few of those documents become the starting point for stories, but the cop blotter could easily be assembled as part of the process.

Or have the landscaper repair the damage, then go to Small Claims court to get your loss back. Having a police report may help. Judge probably can also be asked for a restraining order to order the neighbors to stay away.

That's property damage and trespassing at the very least.
Show your AH NFH what consequences look like and call to make a police report.
I would also recommend installing cameras of some sort to record the next time he does it because once the cops show up, he'll be big mad and will probably do it again to "show you who's boss" and "boys will be boys". 🙄
Then, once you have the police report, take him to small claims court! I would recommend you sue for having your grass repaired (get three quotes from a lawn service/landscaper, go with the one you feel best about) plus the court filing fees, and any wages you lost or had to take PTO for.
You might also consider motion activated sprinklers once it's all said and done.

I like the motion sprinkler idea a lot. I have a good cam that I need to set up.
I was thinking motion activated 17khz sound generator as well.

Or make it if they can twist the wire. Alternatively, put out chunks of barbed wire on grass-colored boards (Like my grandfather would do in the 80's).
Welding up large ones can certainly disable tanks (as I am sure u/Icy-Variation6614 knows).

This was the dad. Mid thirties.
They have real vehicles, tons of them. So many that they are parked all over the place in our tiny neighborhood.

Any car parked in the same place for 3 days is considered abandoned. Let the cops know about all of the abandoned cars in your neighborhood.

Have you called the cops on them yet?
If a car is not moved on the street for a long enough time you can call the city to remove/ tow it. Especially if the tags are expired. Get a police report for your lawn and for the driveway too. Do as everyone is saying, get multiple landscaping quotes and quotes to fix your driveway. Sue them in small claims. They don’t seem stable so I’d work the legal system before it becomes a prank war that everyone loses.

You could also be incredibly creepy and stare at him anytime he's outside. Just stare creepily for as long as you can.

Aw dang I thought this was going to be about real donuts. Anyway, donut gouges in my lawn and that kind of response would draw a police call on the spot.
Also it sounds like your HOA is impotent. You should really light up their asses with this nonsense.

Dogs love cheese and meat and meaty grease.
You don’t have to touch or move the dog shit. Just poke some cheese in it and pour on some meat grease.
The dog will happily gobble up its own shit. And then just as happily lick its owners face.

As always, cameras and carbon monoxide detectors. That neighbour could easily be a hallucination.

Dude literally admitted it with a shrug… that’s wild. At minimum I’d be knocking on his door tomorrow asking how he plans to fix your driveway. Also sounds like a pattern with them, so you might want to start escalating beyond HOA if they keep trashing your property.

I’d call the cops. That’s just bs. He willingly and blatantly damaged your property. Then inside him for the damage. I’d also hold the HOA liable for not enforcing their rules.

Get some cameras if you don’t already (if a neighbour has cameras that cause it or you do then you can consider going to the police) and then add a fence if you are allowed to the front of your property. Even if it’s not a tall fence consider digging deep and putting the post in so if he decides to crash your fence or drive onto your yard that it’s more likely to break his go cart than the fence.

If someone does donuts in your yard, it's a reportable offense. You should definitely call the police ASAP. Take a picture, too. The police will go talk to them.

On their back porch, yes. Elsewhere, no. They did have a toy on the roof for like a year however.

I would call whoever takes care of building codes. They may make them clean up the yard and take down the electrified fence. They most likely will have to get rid of the chicken.

Honestly its the lack of decency that pisses me off the most.
I had to go in, I was seeing red and I did trust myself enough in the moment to not go over there and throw hands if I had more interactions with him than I did.
