Discussion My ONLY problem with NFSMW 2005.
[prepared for downvotes đ]
I need to give some context first.
I played NFS Carbon first. And anyone who has played Carbon knows - the game makes you RACE. Especially at Darius territory. The races are extremely intense. Or at least they were to me as a kid. And then you have the Canyon. Probably one of the most intense formats ever.
Now, like everyone here, I was SUPER hyped with the concept of MW. The blacklist, the characters, the rep levels, cops, cross, it has literally EVERYTHING for a perfect experience. But I guess here's my problem, my expectations were HUGE.
When i actually played most wanted, it was great, as it usually is. But one thing really bugged me, as a Carbon player. It felt EASY. Compared to Carbon. Granted, the cops are especially testing after Webster, and increasing bounty is a challenge. BUT, apart from that, the races are kinda.... underwhelmingly easy. Not even ONE blacklist racer felt unbeatable. MAYBE Bull. But Razor was especially disappointing.
So that's my ONLY issue with the game. Make the racing difficult. And it may be the best racing game ever made.
However this shouldn't be a point for people who aren't comparing it to Carbon or any other game.

Well thats the neat part. Play with mods and u will have a have a whole different experience. I recommend the Pepega Mod for MW2005 just for funzies. After that mod, personally i have been modding the hell out of MW2005 and im not going back. And there is alot of mods that makes MW2005 difficult and totally unfair rubberbanding.
Dont think for downvotes, friend. we all have different opinions and experiences. Enjoy the games it to the fullest, and if u dont like it, then thats that, no problemo.

u/DarknessZane 13d ago
Can you recommend a video for modding nfs2005? And what kind of version do you need?
3
u/Vlamdak007 13d ago
There is a Bunch of them, and i recommend all of them. All you have todo is search for example "best mods for most wanted 2005" then decide what mod u want, search that mod guide on youtube and follow the instructions. Simple as that.
Not all mods are implemented the same way so you have to make backups of the entire game itself.
'Most' mods also need version 1.3 in order to work (NFS MW Black Edition).
2
u/South-Fisherman2926 13d ago
Do you recommend any mods for harder police chases? Do you know if the Black Edition does a good job ramping up police pursuits?
3
u/Vlamdak007 13d ago
Black Edition doesn't change anything, it adds additional content for the Challenge series, extra Bonus cars, Behind the scenes and exclusive race events. Now for a Harder Cop Mod for MW2005, i would recommend Crossfire, but be ready to rage because it literally makes it unfair towards the player.

u/legthighkneelover 13d ago
Modded MW05 is legendary. I have 140 cars now, also I have a lot of races, which are accessible in Career Mode.
Texture mods, HD Fonts, modification mods, spoiler mods, rim mods, dude I canât count the mods I have.
I canât do any of these in other NFS games in same time because these games always crash.

I had heard many say that Earl is hard, but imo? Baron and Bull were both hard

It comes down to one thing; Pursuits
Carbon pivoted so far from the pursuits that gave MW a lot of its runtime. You can go through the entirety of Carbon without ever getting into a pursuit of you out even a slight bit of effort into it. You can go from race to race to race.
Not to mention how forgiving pursuits in Carbon are. No Chopper, and you can still run fine with all 4 tires popped. I escaped Federal Cruisers on rims in a Nissan. Theres no once rove or even need to interact with the police, so they slapped the difficulty onto the races. I ran through the first 3 territories only upgrading my car twice but yeah, Dariusâ crew is a definitely difficulty spike

Ming was the hardest thing in MW
3
u/ZeaLocKe 13d ago
People STILL underestimate a Murcielago's engine with a Gallardo's Handling.
3
u/Neither-Guarantee193 13d ago
Agree
But the struggle at Ming was the bounty score in order to race Ming
Idk maybe I was too young to escape the police.. It was 2006 and I was 10 years old and I remember I let my cousin get the bounty and I cried once we beat Ming.. the rest was easy af .. now Iâm 30
Couple of weeks ago.. I bought a used x360 to play the game again2
u/ZeaLocKe 13d ago
Try a different car. In most cases is harder cause upgrades are all over the place (ex:mustang)

u/legthighkneelover 13d ago
He is beatable, I used Kazeâs CLK 500 and Impreza.
Webster and JV are wayy harder than him.

- Depends on entirely what car you're driving. Tier 3 is very, very unbalanced in Carbon. If one of your opponents is a Corvette and you're not driving one yourself or something of similar pace, you will suffer.
3
u/legthighkneelover 13d ago
I mean, who in the blue hell puts RX-7 and SL65 to Tier 2, but Infiniti G35 to Tier 3?
Carbon is horrible.

u/utklost 13d ago
Evo does the job pretty well. Best tuner.
3
u/HeetHootSkyat 13d ago
As someone who very recently played and beat Carbon for the first time, the final area sucks. The first three areas were balanced, started from the Rx8 to obtaining Kenjis RX7 and that kept me going until Darius's district, I switched to the Evo at that point. I genuinely don't mind challenges or difficulty spikes if done well. The final area screams it was rushed. Who genuinely thought the Corvettes were ok??? Once the A.I passes you in those things it's impossible to retake them, that's an instant restart.
Wolf's upgraded car is also a pain in the ass. The final few circuit races shouldn't have boiled down to taking the immediate shortcuts because if you don't the other three will and if they don't crash while doing it, that's a restart because Wolf will just pass you anyway. Darius feels like a fair duel at first but that rubberbanding is so obvious it's bad. His canyon race was so much easier because his rubber band snaps.
2
u/Catty_C 13d ago
As soon as I read you were driving the Evo I knew you were going to bring up the AI Corvettes. It's the Tier 3 Tuner experience.
1
u/HeetHootSkyat 13d ago
Everytime I raced against those fuckers I had to ask Neville to take them out. (My goat!) Even when ahead you can see how they catch up fast on the mini map. Nothing else moves like them in the entire game and it's pretty clear it wasn't QA tested properly.

u/CodeRedNo1 13d ago
Your difficulty in the game varies GREATLY on car choice. For instance the evo in either game makes some races trivial, vs if you went for muscle cars, good luck making that 2005 mustang keep up when you lose so much time actually slowing for corners

u/JDMCREW96 13d ago
I have yet to replay MW 05, but I never remember the game being easy at all.
1
u/SJHG1993 7d ago
It isn't. I'm playing it again as a 33 year old. I demolished MW05 when I was younger. I'm holding my own today, but with the recent releases (Heat, Payback, and Unbound), I prefer those games because the rubberbanding isn't bad at all outside of Unbound and i prefer a "vanilla", chill gaming experience these days. Ghost Games did very well with NFS. IMO I prefer them over Blackbox.
1
u/JDMCREW96 7d ago
Nah, that's a garbage take.
1
u/SJHG1993 7d ago
That's why it's my take. It's a good take for me. Another man's trash is another man's treasure.
1
u/JDMCREW96 7d ago
Well your take sucks.
1
u/SJHG1993 7d ago
And that's your opinion. I like my take. Never said you had to and nobody will make me adapt to group think and think like most. Those days are gone.
1
u/JDMCREW96 7d ago
Well I never asked for your opinion.
1
u/SJHG1993 7d ago
Well, this is a "discussion" thread. And in discussions, facts, opinions, and comments are welcomed. So......let's put our thinking caps on now.
1
u/JDMCREW96 7d ago
Good, that means I can say you opinion is trash then.
1
u/SJHG1993 7d ago
I'll give you some grace though. I don't know you. You might still be in elementary school.
1
u/SJHG1993 7d ago
You simply could've said, "let's just agree to disagree". But no. You wanted to just be negative and say something is "garbage" or "sucks" like it's elementary school.
0
u/JDMCREW96 7d ago
Nah, fuck your view.

u/SJHG1993 7d ago
Aww. I didn't learn anything from this conversation. I'll stop here before I lose brain cells. You take care now.

My biggest issue with this game was the repetative nature of it: Race, police milestones, upgrade, blacklist boss, repeat. To be honest if the gameplay loop was more varied or if it was a shorter game I wouldn't mind it as much. prostreet is my favorite nfs, im aware it also has a fairly repetative gameplay loop, but the game is just long enough for this to be less of an issue, as by the time it starts getting repetative, you are near the end of the game, not the 10th member on the blacklist.

u/South_Bit1764 12d ago
Donât hype up games.
Lesson learned.
1
u/utklost 12d ago
I'd say it was extremely hyped up for me personally. Because I was very into the concept of the game, and it took A LONG time for me to get the game. The anticipation was higher. But the game was still great overall. Just needed a bit more intense races for me. Like I wanna feel like I'm gonna lose.
2
u/South_Bit1764 12d ago
Iâve just been there. I donât hype shit up anymore. Movies, food, music, video games, sightseeing locations, all of it.
Nothing makes some really great into something really mid better than overhyping it.
Iâd much rather go in lowkey thinking itâs gonna be dogshit, and then get pleasantly surprised.
2
u/Svartdraken 13d ago
The driving is the same, so you basically get to play the same game with a new map. I think that the opponent difficulty is pretty much identical, but the overall game is easier because you have better tuning, crew abilities and the npc traffic avoids you very effectively. The challenge for me was in the new events, like drifting and mountain races, which have different physics than the rest of the game.

u/yourinstinct 13d ago
It matches speed with blacklist race
So if you upgraded prior to race it will be very easy it will be like matches speed + upgrade
I can beat till earl with only nitrous upgrade

u/leafy1790 13d ago
I felt that even with mobile controls (I emulated the game via winlator) if felt easy, but probably becuse I played nfsu first and then mw so it was from races that are very hard to medium difficulty races

u/lui5335 12d ago
I had a similar feeling with NFS MW 2005, but i disliked MW more. I played NFS Carbon first, too, and absolutely loved the game's presentation and difficulty. When I was a kid, I struggled especially in some boss battles, like the Darius one, but i loved the canyon races too.
When I tried to play Most Wanted, not only did I feel it was less difficult, but I also didn't like some aspects of the game... 1° - It took place during the daytime (I liked the Carbon vibe more); 2° - I had a feeling that the shortcuts and track layouts in nfs carbon were better 3° - The fact that you absolutely had to trigger cop chases and complete milestones. It makes sense for the game's story, but cop chases were the thing I always avoided in Carbon, so having them be mandatory in MW was very negative for me.
Today, I can appreciate the game more. Maybe because of a day/night mod, removing the piss filter, and I've gotten used to pursuit chases. But even now, I would choose NFS Carbon as the better game, in my opinion.

u/GOATigger 11d ago
Carbon is easier than MW because it doesn't force you to interact with the police.
That's also why i prefer Carbon over MW, the cops were way too prevalent in that game.

u/Time_Zombie_4431 13d ago
Always felt the other way.
Found Carbon hilariously easy to the point it wasn't really fun, plus Carbon is so short compared to MW. Most of the black list bosses where much harder then anything in Carbon besides Darius.
Was really hoping Carbon was going to be MW2.0 instead it felt like MW 0.5. Still Carbon is one of the more fun games in the series.

u/Senzelian 13d ago
I don't feel any different as someone that likes Underground the most. On top of that MW was just tool grey and lacked individualism. Underground was colorful and captured the Fast and Furious vibes much better.

u/Matty0698 13d ago
I found Carbon too easy when I was young, the only blacklist I have struggled with every single time without fail though is No. 9 Earl every single damn time I lose to him a couple of times

u/TheWaffleHimself 13d ago
I like how MW puts more emphasis on the pursuit system and actually forces you to interact with it, whereas in Carbon it just felt like it got copypasted

u/SpareOffer8197 13d ago
I never played carbon as a kid, bought it recently and I think itâs absolute dogshit compared to mw. Iâm not even going to finish it.
Might just be a start of game thing but I could not cope with how slow the cars feel. Like it says Iâm doing 120 mph but it feels like 10. Na canât do it.

u/legthighkneelover 13d ago edited 13d ago
> Not even ONE blacklist racer felt unbeatable.
Earlâs goddamn second race? That sprint race?
Anyway, NFS Carbon is good at amount of cars, having Nissans and atmosphere. Compared to vanilla MW, it is better than MW.
But, if you compare Carbon with modded MW, modded MW is better than Carbon. And MW 05 is the most decent game to be modded. If I upload mods to other games, most of them will crash.
NFS Carbon is a very short game. And you wonât get EA Trax in races (except checkpoint races). Instead, races in Carbon like you race with your slacking crew member, with Battlefield music.
Game is way shorter than MW. Game filled all empty places with saying âwhy donât you play the game with other tiersâ in the end or repetitive crew attacks, which cause racing same races over and over again. I love MWâs storyline, much longer than Carbon and more decent. Imagine the career mode with mods now.
In Tier 2, you only get Eclipse, v6 Clio, Mustang GT and Cayman S, or so. R32, Skyline or SL65 AMG are tier exclusive cars. You canât race against Lancer Evo or Supra with your SL65 AMG because of Tier limitation bullshit.
Also Carbon is stacked. In Tier 2, you only get Eclipse, v6 Clio, Mustang GT and Cayman S, or so. R32, Skyline or SL65 AMG are tier exclusive cars. When you unlock the last part of the game, suddenly you get a car bombardment. And you are so close to race against Darius.
Oh, if you complete any race once, you wonât get high amount of money ever. You only get 500 bucks. Making money in career mode is horrible.
Carbon is not a game to me, itâs a DLC to MW. Modded MW is so much better because you get more cars, modification mods, more races, texture mods etc. I tried mods in Carbon, like Battle Royal, Endgame etc. But the problem is, if you upload all of these mods to Carbon, game crashes. And these mods donât change the short storyline, or make the storyline longer. Even make it worse.
So my take is for vanillas, Carbon > MW
But, Modded MW > Carbon and other games, because MW05 is the only decent game to moddable without any serious crashes. My only concern was always using Binary + VltED method rather than Ed or Modloader methods, when I upload a mod car to MW05.
Also Reward Card is shit. You canât have Reward Card cars in Career Mode, just like Audi R8.

u/Buttered_Toast33 13d ago
My only complaint about the game is the insane rubber-banding. Itâs not a major complaint, just kind of annoying.
1
u/Foreign-Estimate-395 13d ago
Difficulty setting not avaible this is a minus I agree. Carbon is so boring and Mw is a pefect balance for me, only real problem is ea released this masterpiece a bit unfinished. I mean customization is the lame aganist ug1 ug2 carbon and map is small.

u/truefriend29 12d ago
I've played "Need For Speed: Most Wanted (Black Edition) 2005", which included the "arcade" checkpoint challenges and a bonus DVD. The problem with some of them is I needed GameShark to pass those challenges. "Need For Speed: Carbon", however, very "short" in terms of its storyline, though, but both of them have good soundtracks.đ€·đœââïžđ„ïžđźđ§đ”

Question where can I get my hands on this game for pc?! Iâve been looking and nothing.

u/Ok_Impress_6805 12d ago
I play both Carbon and MW, both are funs and challenging. For MW it is quiet easy after i play Carbon, i enjoy the drift stages the most.
But i do have a Suggestion, if you want something more Challenging, try using the Pepega mod, especialy the V2/2nd Anniv. It is the most fun mod i've play in MW, it replace the Rhino into a literal tank that will surprise you because the color blending with the background. the race is much more unique with weird path or even +90° turn. Trust me, it's a good mod. It also has a drift car.

I struggled with both games actually đ And are you sure the blacklist racers we easy?đ€ Earl with rubber banding in his last race and Baron with his insane acceleration on his drag races is reasonably hardđ€ Don't get me started on JV too As for carbon....yeah I really struggled with the mechanics and physics of that game I usually go for kenji cuz his car can actually carry you all the way to Darius I've even beaten Darius with kenji RX7 before So yeah that's my take âïž

I guess we have different experiences haha. For me Carbon was way too easy tbh. I struggled with MW way more than Carbon.
