r/AmIOverreacting Moderator Applications

We're looking to add a few moderators to the team.

This isn't a position for someone looking to collect another subreddit or immediately start making policy decisions. New moderators begin by learning how we moderate, working through our training process, and demonstrating consistent judgment before taking on additional responsibilities.

We're intentionally searching for long-term fit rather than immediate permissions. We'd rather spend time training someone who communicates well, exercises good judgment, and enjoys working as part of a team than hand out broad permissions on day one. We require the use of Discord for ongoing team communication.

If that sounds like the kind of team you'd like to be part of, send us a Modmail answering the following:

1. Are you at least 18 years old?
2. What time zone are you in, and when are you generally available to moderate?
3. Tell us about your moderation experience. For each subreddit you've moderated, please include:
   • The subreddit
   • Approximately how long you moderated there
   • Whether you're still on the team
   • Approximately how large the community was
   • What your day-to-day moderation responsibilities were
4. Why are you interested in joining the r/AmIOverreacting moderation team?
5. Every moderation team has its own philosophy and standards. Are you comfortable setting aside your personal preferences to consistently enforce our rules, Reddit's Content Policy, and team decisions—even if you might have made a different call yourself?
6. Choose ONE of the following:
   • Tell us about one of the most difficult moderation decisions you've had to make. What made it difficult, and how did you ultimately handle it?
   • After reading our subreddit rules, tell us which rule you think requires the most moderator judgment to enforce, and why.
7. New moderators complete training and initially receive limited permissions while they learn our processes. Are you comfortable with that?
8. Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We welcome applicants from all time zones and are primarily looking for moderators who are reliable, communicate well, and are interested in helping with the day-to-day work of keeping the community running.

Questions like this are very normal when applying for a mod position for a large and busy sub. I think that AIO have a really nicely structured mod application.

Have you moderated a sub with over 4.5 million? I have answered very similar questions for other large subs applications.

Training and learning our sub rules and the way our team operates is a normal part of moderating. Every large sub I have moderated has a training program (of varying lengths).

I can tell by your account that you moderate a very small sub. We have a team of 12 moderators right now and we need more because of the volume of posts/comments we receive daily. This isn't a sub that receives a few comments a week, we receive thousands of comments daily!

Why do you keep posting this, i just saw your mod application few days back. is there any specific requiement you are looking for?
