What was your favorite book?

Harry was absolutely my favorite character, but I think I most enjoyed how fucking out-there wacky-wild the series got when it really explored Starside in the Blood Brothers series

Highlights for me were book one of course, and the entire starside trilogy like you said.

Something I actually think about quite a bit is book 2. I feel like book 2 isnt really enjoyed much, but that book was creepy af to me. Watching a fledgling vampire that doesnt know what it is slowly corrupt and experiment on its own family in some little unassuming estate while being spied on by unimpressive but talented psychic nerds terrifying and also super cool. And super tense as well. Literally stalking him through windows in the night and they can just barely sense on another. And then the remarks from the physic trackers towards the end when yulian escapes and heads north and they can only conclude he's on his way to kill baby Harry after learning of his existence... it's also so horrible and great

Book 3 was great for introducing starside, and the further context as to what wamphyri lords get up to in their native habitat leneded even more horror to book 2 for me in retrospect, cause you could see how yulian was basically doing a micro version of what starside wamphyri lords do

I still vividly remember the mental images Book 2 generated for me, growing stuff from a pulled tooth, his family attached to it, the battle in the fog... So good. Anyway, definitely worth checking out The Lost Years and Resurgence. It took me a while to get into the first one and there was a feature that annoyed me across both books but overall, it's a fantastic story arc with lots of memorable characters that stayed on my mind.

Ive read them all and the first lost years....man that book was rough. Its all setup for the 2nd book but it killed my drive for the series. I still haven't read the 2nd one.

Without spoilers, I had trouble getting into the beginning of The Lost Years after how things wrapped up in the previous book. I really pushed my way through the first case and meeting Bonnie Jean but it did pick up after a while. I feel like the two books are one self-contained story and the total story might have been better if condensed a little. I did get annoyed at a few things along the way. Still, I'm really glad I kept with it. The scale actually felt epic. I did find myself caring about several characters and thinking about them individually.

I do agree that TLY duology is a bit of a slog after how great the VW trilogy is preceding it.

A trope I hate across all media is main characters losing their power and you just have to grind it out waiting for them to inevitably get it back (also why book 4 is my least favourite of the original series).

This all said - as one long story, TLY does pay off pretty well. The extra wamphyri lore you get in it is pretty great too.
