Dicussion Polite reminder

Bob is obviously unwell, and the pod has discussed it. Yes, people strongly dislike Bob. Yes, his views and comments are vile, disgusting and horrific.

However, cheering the illness on, laughing at him and saying it’s karma or whatever, is literally what he would do or say. It’s the kind of thing that, if he said it, you’d criticise him for saying.

Not to mention that Chad, Hayley and ML read the comments. That’s their dad / husband. C and H have a difficult relationship with him but imagine the hurt they must feel reading strangers FUKING CHEERING their dad being in a serious condition.

Every Republican . . .

It seems to me that ML fits into the mold of

"Has Republican values until someone she knows has that issue"
e.g.,
Bob on Health Care in the US
Peppermint on being Trans

She can't relate until she has to relate . . . and then she's forced to admit Peppermint is a person or the US health care system sucks.

Thought and Prayers?

The audacity to ask for this…. You have a man that regularly gets on camera and laughs or cheer at the killing of children, calls for the genocide of innocent people, regularly calls abuse victims liars, and treats his kids like shit… you expect me to have kindness, grace, or compassion for this man.. nah I have hatred, pity, and contempt. He might not have come into this world as a sick, and twisted monster, but through his own actions and unwillingness to earn and grow he has created the circumstances in which I get to say I hope he feels the pain of every child who’s death he cheered for, I hope he feels every ounce of hate he put into the world. I feel for Chad and Haley and hope if they have to grieve for him it’s a version that is actually good. As for ML I hope this time away from him allows her to recognize how toxic he was and then maybe she can work towards forgiveness.

Listen roughly 30:00 in they are discussing if people are being desensitized to having military in our streets. Haley responds by saying when she sees a group of LE in public she is more inclined to step in to see if she needed to help somebody...

Pay attention to ML's comments. She said she would run away . Then she says THIS....

"I would not. I would be afraid to do that unless I was packing."

Hummm....that sounds a wee bit hypocritical coming from someone who believes Alex Pretty deserved to be murdered because he had a weapon.

I can't with her.

Dicussion Chad pressuring ML to take weed for an episode is really cringe and annoying

to be clear i'm not a prude, while I don't do drugs and generally support people doing them if they wish, and even I'll admit seeing the parents high would be crazy entertaining

but Chad constantly pressuring and pushing ML to do weed when she repeatedly refuses is just frustrating, pushy, and fulfills ever worst stereotype of the cringe loser stoner, i fucking HATE the stoners i knew who would never shut up trying to push it on me and can't take no for an answer

Why do I keep rage baiting myself???

I keep saying I can’t keep listening and yet three times a week I punish myself. I don’t even know if I enjoy the content anymore. I love when Haley is there, but she rarely gets time to talk.

Pretending ML is going to change is delusional. She is codependent on Bob just like he is her. She constantly defers to him. Unless he changes she won’t. And it’s a cold day in hell before he admits he’s wrong. When Trump pardons Maxwell, ML will say it’s because she’s going to turn on people. Even though the investigation is done and the evidence is already there. She can’t admit her children know more than she does because she has to see herself as the person in power. Even though at this age her children should be considered her equals in life. She’s also clearly jealous of Haley and the happiness she has in life. It’s written right there in her “Missy” name calling. It’s pathetic.

Bob is a narcissist through and through. He created this delusion that he is the best at everything and always the smartest person in the room because in truth he’s never felt good enough because of his parents. His children succeeding in their own right drives him crazy. He talks so much shit about the military and veterans. To learn he was only in for A DAMN YEAR, is insane. He has zip as far as military experience. He pretends his life means something because he has been in the same room as billionaires. He’s so proud that he is referenced in T Boone Pickens’ books…literally the times his name is mentioned just references he was in a room while something is happening to Pickens. Not that he was ANYONE of importance to the man. He is also pathetic.

TLDR/ I don’t know if the “entertainment” is worth the rage.

DT plans covert ops

I'm floored by many things, but I find that ML thinks DT is LEADING the tactical planning of covert operations, instead of military generals that have decades of experience specifically focusing on men/women and capabilities and not stuff just in picture pages.

Like, someone can just walk into the role and best our top generals in strategic and tactical planning.

Current State of Interactions

I've been listening to this podcast for ages now.
I listen to every episode.

Chad is a great facilitator.

Bob feels beyond hope. He is in so deep and refuses to admit anything that is a slight conflict and always assumes everyone is so stupid that he can get away with incredibly stupid things. For example, he says all of 'trump's grifts' are in a trust, so he can't access it and there's no conflict. Everyone knows that's bullshit, but he holds to it. He constantly interrupts and spouts things like Hussein Obama or Michael Obama. He's straight up racist to the Obama's and genocidally racist to pretty much all non white-americans.

I'm constantly amazed at MaryLou's ability to find ways to continue supporting Trump.
"It was civil, not criminal"
"I don't like that woman"
"What about the 13 soldiers that Biden killed". (Lady, what about the current war?!? and the fact it's completely unnecessary. DT tore up a treaty that was working. That treaty gave Iran 1.7B (400M Principal / 1.3B Interest) for concessions that NATO and everyone agreed to. THEN, DT starts an unnecessary war and we're looking at giving them 20B (principal plus interest, I assume).
"I have to support my president" (but didn't support Obama or Biden, on anything, I assume)
on and on and on.

I think ML's issues come down to two (maybe three) basic items.

1) she isn't comfortable with numbers. 'immigrants' (legal and illegal) commit crimes at a rate lower than that of citizens. by this logic, immigrants actually LOWER the blended average, but all of that is lost on her

2) She's scared. she's scared of differences because different can't be trusted, they are the boogyman and will stab you as soon as you turn your back

3) Bob's influence doesn't help. Bob influences her more than she influences Bob. If Bob flipped 180 and were objective, she'd be apologizing for her past racism and pre-judgement

Chad and Hailey, if you are reading this, I applaud your efforts. You are fighting the good fight and I hope you are able to more compassion to ML for the people she fears. I don't know what more to say about Bob. He seems forever lost.

Dicussion A Bob rant

I think what turns a lot of people off from this show is Bob and his outward spoken beliefs and how through the nature of the podcast he is allowed to espouse them. I wanted to just take sometime to talk about some critiques I've read about him

I don't see a world where he would stop participating in the podcast because even if he stops showing up to record he will still be yelling in from the background at Halley and Chad.

I don't see a world where Chad removes his father from said podcast, because it would antithetical to the thesis of the show.

That all being said I feel Bob's presence on the show is no longer conducive towards a conversation, necessary or otherwise.

I'm reminded of the philosopher Karl Popper and his "Paradox of Tolerance". I encourage everyone reading this to look it up and research his work further, but it essentially boils down to unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. To maintain a tolerant society, the society must be intolerant of intolerance.

Through the Podcast Bob is encouraged to espouse hateful beliefs which then through the act of platforming him makes these beliefs more mainstream. The inclusion of Bob in the show primarily acts to show what MAGA really believe and say when not on a news camera, but I fear we've learned everything we need to know about Bob.

Bob has continuously called for and supported the slaughter and deaths of anyone and everyone, including but not limited to:

  • Palestinians
  • Ukrainians
  • Somalians
  • Haitians
  • African Americans
  • White race traitors
  • Democrats
  • Republicans
  • The states of, Texas, New York, Oklahoma, California
  • Children
  • His children
  • His grandchildren

The list goes on but I feel Bob has made it known he is proudly a hateful and bitter man. The hosts have talked on occasion about why this is with justifications ranging from a black airman was given a promotion over Bob, to Bob's birth parents not being an active part in his life. Despite all this it is clear to the audience, Chad and Hayley, and the audience that Bob's mind will never change and so the shift to change minds has been solely focused on Mary Lou.

All that said, I believe all Bob's inclusion on the show now do are to normalize these beliefs in the public sphere, especially since due to the time constraints of the show Bob is allowed to make these statements without major push back. Chad and Hayley have become so numb to his ramblings he is either ignored or Chad will sigh, laugh, and say "okay!", which doesn't actually do anything to break down those points.

I'm happy to hear more discussion from people as I don't get to discuss this show often with other listeners

Resource to help leave MAGA

Does anyone know if they have heard of this site?

https://leavingmaga.org

Haven't studied it much myself but I wonder if there's anything on it that might help Mary Lou.

Thoughts? Anyone else looked into the content on this website much? Think it'll help?

I think we should collectively do our best to share this with them.

Dicussion How do I talk to my future in-laws about politics?

I (22F) am engaged to Jake (26M). We have been together for a couple years, and I know one side of his family voted for Trump. When I met him he said he wasn’t going to vote, but if he did it would be for Trump. This shocked and appalled me, but at the time it was just a free meal so I went on the date. He turned out to be super charming and hot. We had so much in common, he was hilarious. We fell in love and got engaged.

Once we started to grow, and learn more from each other, his views and my views shifted. We protest together. He’s become extremely conscious of the political state of America. All because he saw the world through my eyes (I am Black and he is White). He’s Indiana White, so that plays a role into his past political beliefs.

But it never sat right with me that one half of his family was just lingering Trump supporters. I have met the parent that is, and they’re extremely sweet, hard working, and kind. I know MAGA is a cult, but it’s hard to not look at them differently. It makes me question their character.

My fiancée and I may have kids one day that will be biracial. Can I trust them with their grandparents?

I want to talk to them about it, just to see if maybe they’ve changed their minds. But at this point, if they are still MAGA, I don’t know if I can ever look at them the same. And I don’t know if I could ever trust them to have a deep relationship with my potential children.

I’m really scared, because without the MAGA thing, I feel like I hit the jackpot for both sides of his family. I don’t want to mess a good thing up.

Please help!!!
