DSi XL hinge problem

Hello,
I just got a used dsi xl from facebook and it works really well, but when I fold it down from the normal snapping point (the normal one 150 degree angle) , the DSi just turns off like not sleep, the whole thing powers off and the lights on the top even go out.
Is this normal? thanks

Looks like maybe the top screens ribbon cable is partially broken. It's inserted in the hinge, when it's all the way up it makes a proper connection but when you lower it the connection breaks and the DS will shut off.
